View Full Version : Any thoughts on my lift?
After going back and forth for months now, I think I'm finally close to deciding and wanted to see what you all think about the direction I'm going. I'd also love to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly about the products I'm thinking about. Ive got an 06 Rubi with a 6 speed manual, 4.10 gears, 4:1 trans case, 2" BB and quickly balding 31's . . . my Jeep is my daily driver and I'm not looking to run JV or take the hardest line on every obstacle, but I want to be able to run areas like John Bull, Doran, etc, without dragging everything over the rocks . . . so I was thinking about 33's. I've got my list and estimated prices (mostly from the 4WheelParts catelog) below . . . If anyone knows how I can get a better deal on what I'm looking for or a better product for the price, let me know.
Thanks Everybody!!!
Lift Kit - Full Traction 4" Flex Arm ("Performance") Short Arm Lift - $880
Shocks - The Full Traction ones that go with the kit are 85 bucks each . . . I'd love to hear from you all as to which shocks would work well without breaking the bank - $200-$350
CV Driveshaft - The Rubicon Express one is $400 . . . Again your input is appreciated - $400
Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier - Rock Hard w/ TJ Frame mount - $725
5 x 33" Tires (16" or 15" see below)- Goodyear MTRs or BFG MTs - I like both and would go with whichever I can find the best deal on . . . HELP!!!
Wheels or Spacers - Not sure yet . . . I like my Rubi 16" wheels and lean toward saving some dough and going with the spacers, but then again, if there's a sweet deal, I might go with 5 new 15" wheels - Spacers=$110
Shadly1 02-19-08, 08:00 PM Looks like a solid plan for a dual purpose vehicle.
Check out the sales at Costco, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart for your tires. Sometimes they have some deals that are too good to pass up... as long as you stick to the name brands.
medicmahem 02-19-08, 08:07 PM if you use the factory wheels you will probably need wheel spacers also. As for your drive line check out Tom Woods, his drivelines are the best in my opinion.

What are the benefits/cost of the Tom Woods and where do you get one? I'll probably keep my stock wheels and go with the wheel spacers, unless I see some really sweet 15" wheels that are offered as a package deal with the tires . . . seems like those come around once in a while. Thanks Guys!
womb raider 940 02-19-08, 08:32 PM You can't beat 4 wheel parts prices. just stay away from there service. they can have some killer deals. march I think the have something going on.

HA! Are you kidding? 4WP is ALWAYS overpriced.
Find everything you need through the forums. You can easily get everything for a better price just keep your eyes peeled. I just got my bros RE CV DS for $300 shipped. Full Traction is good. Get your shocks used. Find some Bilstiens 5100s or 5150s. I wouldnt buy a bumper for $725 seems a little much. Find your tires on craigslist and get 15" wheels with 3.75" Back Spacing and forget the spacers.
flatpoint 02-19-08, 08:48 PM Own an 06 Rubi (LJ) myself, my thoughts; Went with a RE.sf 7000 kit w. 3 1/2" springs. Dont know much about the FT. short arm kit, but the RE. kit is GREAT. 15"s give you more of a tire choice, more sidewall,(flex),and more load range "C" tires to chose from,(back to choice).MT. MTZ. 33/12" tires work great in the desert, and aired down, they BITE! Just my 2 cents.....

jeez bud relax. go thru there online 800 number and they can make you a deal with all the parts you go inside the store they will charge you the retail. it doesnt make sense why they do business that it is shady. but they can cut you a deal that way.
flatpoint 02-19-08, 09:07 PM Tire carrier/Bumper, Ive had GREAT luck with my LOD EXT. bump./tire carrier. Price is right, and, so far,NO RATTLING, NO PROBS. with this prod. Worth looking into...

haha that was me relaxed. But trust me you can get it WAY cheaper through forums etc...
Shadly1 02-20-08, 12:06 AM Get your shocks used. WHAT?!? Who sells used shocks that are worth a damn? Actually, who buys shocks that are used? Well, except...
Find some Bilstiens 5100s or 5150s. I have 5100s. While they are an excellent shock, I have the longest ones and they are still too short. I have a foot of travel now but I'd have about 18" with longer shocks.
Find your tires on craigslist WHAT?!? Get them from a shop with a warranty. You'll have to get them mounted at a tire shop anyway. Is it worth all that risk and shipping and lugging around to save a few bucks?
Obviously, my opinion differs from yours and that's OK. Used hard metal parts are great, but used wearable parts are just generally a bad idea.
swbooking 02-20-08, 12:49 AM haha a few dollars? I bought my last pair of 35s Xterrains BRAND NEW never mounted for $400 Thats about $500 less then i could get them for almost anywhere else and had them mounted for $40, i couldnt even by two tires from 4WPs for that price (they're $214.99 a piece in the ORA Mag). Jimmyrig got his Baja Claws with less the 50 street miles on them $550 for all 5 (35's as well; those are about $240 a piece). We just picked up another set of 4 35" BFG MTs (for the CJ) for $60 with about 50% tread life.
Shipping, no ive never had tires shipped that would be a pain. All the ones ive found were with in 30min driving distance. Ive always just called the guy, told him id be there with cash at a certain time and picked them up, no hassle, no pushy salesmen, and ive even gotten to talk to some cool wheelers.
I have actually driven over a giant steak knife which punctured my tire (welcome to Rivercide), but $10 later at the local tire shop and it was good to go. Besides then ive never had a problem with tires without a warranty. Anyways, most places void your warranty when they see they've been ruined by offroading.
As far as shocks go, LOTS of people by and sell used shocks that are worth a damn. Just cause theyre used doesnt mean they're no longer good. Plus just cause they're "used" doesnt mean they have actually even been run on a rig. They could have not fit someones application and still be practically brand new.
As a matter of fact i have 4 sets of shocks in the shop that have never been run and theyre perfectly fine but if i wanted to i would have to sell them at a "used" price.
womb raider 940 02-20-08, 05:19 AM some things I would buy used some things I wouldn't. But you can't find everything on there sounds like you got lucky on the tires though.

well put
mrchips 02-20-08, 07:01 AM I would look @ America's Tire for good tire prices, and there off road warranty,as I have heard very good things. I run 33's on my LJ and you need a 1" spacer, as for shocks, go with Bilstein 5100, all around good shock, and within your price range.
Rest of your build sounds good.
maddmike 02-20-08, 09:16 AM joe, as I mentioned over the weekend, I'd leave your jeep the way it is now and just get new tires, a winch, and an oil pan skid (yes you know why I just said that ;)). may want to consider a full 2 or 2.5" susp. lift soon. you may dent up a few skid plates but they are easily replaceable.
i beat up my jeep pretty bad, but i also purposefully take the most difficult line i can find through every obstacle which is part of why that happens. if you're careful and don't wheel that often i'd say stick with a 2" and 31's. i've never had too much problem getting through most anything with it, and you'll do much better considering you don't need the transfer case drop kit like i do, and have lockers already.
remember when you go to 33's it's likely you will have other problems like steering failure with stock equip,, braking loss, clearance issues, etc...and it may be more trouble than it's worth.
i suggest posting over at jeepBBS, or see if Nailer341 can give you some tips before you make the final call.
best of luck,
xthread 02-20-08, 10:23 AM once you lift it and go bigger tires ,the worry of dragging over everything goes away .unless you chose bad lines .the only thing i don't like are wheel spacers .don't do it .my buddy had them on his unlimited and he always checked them for tight and we found out when he pulled the wheel off he found they were cracked and ready to grenade .so other than that do you're home work and good luck !!!!!!!!
jimmyrig 02-20-08, 10:45 AM Hmmm some great used FOXs on here (cough) Nailer. How many guys/gals never run there rig off road. Pavment Pounders. Or look for higher end shocks that can be rebuilt. As far a 4 wheel parts yeah maybe. But like Allen said the deals through board members can be better. PLUS when you buy from the small guy you keep our industry strong and prices stay competitive. !!!! Support the small guy!!!!
The tires arnt luck Let me name the sets I have found
5 35'' baja claws 50 miles $550
5 35''NEW xterrains $400
4 35''New PJ dirt grips $500
4 33''MTZ $400
4 35''80% tread xterrains on alloys $500
4 36''Irocks 80% 400
4 37''Irocks 80% on OMF Bead Locks $1500
5 33''BFG Mudds new 500
5 33''Baja Claws on alloys $450
These are all on or were on BS FAB Crew rigs in the last year or so!

I've seen that happen lots of times too. I worked at a tire shop throughout most of the '90s and have seen some really goofy stuff. If you HAVE to go that route, make sure you get the best quality spacers you can find... and buy 5 of them. Look for steel as opposed to aluminium. The best situation would be to buy wheels with the correct backspacing for what you're doing.
jimmyrig 02-20-08, 10:54 AM I would say get good protection first. (SKIDS)
Then score some spacers. Find some good cheap shocks. Find some good tread used 32-33 and run it. Have fun. And in a couple of years as your tastes in trails change spend the money on a quality lift!
RE,Old man Emu, TNT, ect..

i would suspect that the reason you can find a great deal on many sets of 35's-37's is that most people will never or are not set up to run this size tire, so it's a buyer's market.
you only have 2 sets of 33's listed, none of which are an incredible deal.
joe, no matter what you do, i would only buy springs and shocks new. tires....i would say you could go either way since they're just rubber and you can physically see what's wrong with them when you buy them. another advantage to buying new springs and shocks is that the spring rate and shock absorption will be matched, especially if you buy both in the same brand and speak with the company about your anticipated needs before the purchase.
dirtman13 02-20-08, 01:20 PM Joe, I suggest you work on your armor first. Skid plates, steering box cover, etc. Then work on the other items. When you get the lift kits and big tires you tend to do more challenging stuff because you can and that’s where the damage begins.
swbooking 02-20-08, 02:18 PM Mike are you serious? 5 33" Baja Claws on Alloy Wheels for $450 isn't a good deal? damn, id like to see your deals then. And no, none of these were bald, we only buy with a minimum of 50% tread life left, most are 75% or better. And we dont have many 33s listed cause only a couple of us run them. I have seen pleanty on craigslist though. Another one to add to the list is a set (4) of brand new 33" Dick Cepek MTs for $400. That makes 4 sets of 33's now.
Dukes69 02-20-08, 03:02 PM You guys bitch too much.
Joe,
If it were me, I would do the following:
Get about 3-3.5 inches of lift. I like to piece together lifts, because noone offers exactly what I want. FT makes decent stuff, as far as I've heard.
Add a 1-1.5 inch body lift. Get a quality one Currie or JKS
The BL will allow you to get a flatter center skid.
Add a motor mount lift to get things back in line. MORE bomb proof
Add an engine skid
Shocks: Shocks can make or break a set up. Fox came out with some "stock" replacement TJ versions a while back. If you don't change your lift height, then these will be the last shocks you'll ever own. Completely rebuildable and revalvable.
Fixed yoke kit: They're all pretty much the same. I would stay away from "hack-n-tap" styles, just not a fan. For the driveshaft I would suggest a decent local place. If you FUBAR the shaft and need it repaired it's nice yo have a local place to go.
Bumper: the one you listed is too heavy. However, I don't really have any good suggestions.
Tires: Ditch the 16's unless you need clearance for bigger brakes. 15's will give you more tire options at less cost. MT/R's are great on the rocks and wear fairly nice. BFG just came out with a new M/T design. If they're anything like the Krawlers, then they should be pretty good. The old style BFG's were prone to sidewall punctures. Americas tire has decent prices and will price match. Try www.tirerack.com for the best price. Or maybe one of the MJR vendors. Wherever you buy them from you can still get the warranty from Americas tire, IIRC.
Wheels: Might as well finish it off nice and buy new wheels.
womb raider 940 02-20-08, 03:38 PM alot of choices joe....my friend......may the force be with you
As far a 4 wheel parts yeah maybe. But like Allen said the deals through board members can be better. PLUS when you buy from the small guy you keep our industry strong and prices stay competitive. !!!! Support the small guy!!!!
I totally agree and figured that some of the vendors or fellow jeepers might see the thread and hook me up with some sweet deals! (Hint, Hint :D) I'm going to do some research/calling around once I decide on exactly what I'll be purchasing, but just so happen to have that 339 page 4WP catelog on my coffee table which makes for a nice reference point! As far as the armor, I'm planning to put on a steering box skid and a new diff cover or Warn guard on the front diff when I change out the fluid, ASAP. I really liked the Nth Sliders but called all over months ago and couldn't find any . . . I liked their oil skid too. Suggestions as to armor are also welcome!!!
swbooking 02-20-08, 07:49 PM Try PMing "HazzmatOffroad" (I think thats his handle) He has some good deals on tires. As far as armor im partial to Rokmen and TnTs stuff.

womb raider 940 02-20-08, 08:43 PM Joe. I consider you a friend......... sometimes.......
So leave it the way it is. put a full 2 inch suspension lift on it. leave the 31's on it. change the ridiculous skid plate to piece of foil. pull the wheels off put it on jacks. and put some hot dogs on it and pretend you can wheel around anywhere. I mean after all it is a rubicorn. Anyways you know by this post where you are going soooo.

You guys need any ketchup with that stuff??:log:
Oh, and I have this electric motor we could put on the front with some string......
Hey, I talked to the GenRight rep at Calico, and says that AEV should have the sliders and such with in the next couple o weeks.....
I just noticed on my front axle u-joint a little nicka roo....
Time to either fab some up, with my fancy harbor freight welder:omg: or get the Nth slider, if AEV ever gets smart about what line they 'picked up'.
Just found out my bonus at the end of the month will be rockin' . . . so it's on like Donkey Kong!!!:D So many decisions though . . . what all to do:dunno:
Any suggestions on a rear bumper/tire carrier? Seems like the consensus is that the Rock Hard is too expensive and too heavy. I really like the Rock Hard as it comes with the shackels and the accessory hitch, as well as a built in spot for my HiLift and CB.
Sounds like my cool looking Rubi wheels will have to go . . . I'm not liking the idea of one of those spacers cracking on me. So with 33's on 15's what would be the best width and backspacing for the wheels?
Is my list complete or am I missing anything?
swbooking 02-21-08, 07:47 PM I like 10" width, most people will tell you go with 8". 3.75" - 4" back spacing is good.
As for bumpers i would say:
JCR (http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SWBB), Rokmen (http://www.rokmen.com/products/tj_lj_bumpers/tj_lj_bumpers.html), Warn (http://www.arbusa.com/bumpers_rear_tire_carriers.php), Rock-it Man (http://www.rock-itman.com/products/rearbumper.html)
mrchips 02-21-08, 08:30 PM I have been running spacers,, 33's ,, 4.5" lift and stock Rubi rims, and have run some hard core trails and have had no problems at all, torque them on and use locktite, as for them cracking, buy good quality, and you should have no problems. Looking for a good price on rims, America's tire has a rim, Steel made by UNIQUE, Looks the same as Pro Comps but @ alot less money.
mrchips 02-21-08, 08:32 PM ALSO LOOK @ www.schrockworks.com as they have a nice tire carrier.
ALSO LOOK @ www.schrockworks.com as they have a nice tire carrier.
Wow Chips you are right that thing is sweet. I like how it's got the HiLift mount and the wrap arounds to protect the corners . . . It's also got the telescoping tire carrier so it won't stick out like the RockHard seems to. But did you see the price . . . 930 bucks with 2 shackles . . . ouchie!!!
Anyone have experience with this bumper/carrier...is it worth the price? How was the install?
Materdaddy 02-21-08, 10:08 PM ...As for bumpers i would say:
... Rock-it Man (http://www.rock-itman.com/products/rearbumper.html)...
I've been barking up that tree for quite some time. Seems somebody (:duke:) doesn't like making bumpers... Something about too much work, not enough money, blah, blah, blah. :D
I don't know why it's still on his site though.
mrchips 02-22-08, 06:45 AM I dont have info on the Bumper, but I am running Schrockworks rock sliders, and they are very well made and really strong, compared to other LJ sliders I have seen.
Kodiak Spirit 02-22-08, 07:26 AM I dunno what you want, new or used... but Desert Jewel should be selling alot of good stuff really soon... you might want to give it a week or so....

womb raider 940 02-22-08, 12:41 PM Any news
So now I'm hearing that AEV has finally brought out some of Nth's parts . . . Might have to get their oil pan skid and f/r diff sliders. So what should I expect as far as gas milage once I go w/ 4" lift, 33's, and a bunch of armor, tire carrier, etc???
I dunno what you want, new or used... but Desert Jewel should be selling alot of good stuff really soon... you might want to give it a week or so.... :2:

JOE, How ya been?? I,ve been following your thread for some time now..Looking forward to seeing your Rubi after all her work...By the way is Turbo feeling better?? Good Luck!!..Geeb
Hey Geeb,
It's been a while . . . hope you're doin' well. I think Turbo is coming around . . . I took him to the vet on Monday, and ran some tests to see if he picked up a parasite or something in Calico just to be on the safe side. You know I've been toying around with some different ideas as my stock 31's are starting to get bald, and after seeing Josh and Rick's Rubi's with the 33's and lift, I just have to do it to mine too. Sitting next to Josh's my poor Rubi looks so small!!! The 33's and extra lift should be just right for the type of wheelin' that we do and not take all the challenge out of trails, but lessen the amount of time I spend looking under the Jeep to see where that rock hit!!!:D
Alright so here's what I'm thinking now after some more reseaching and of course hearing from you all . . . thanks for all the input! Need some more advice though!
Lift Kit - Full Traction 4" Flex Arm ("Performance") Short Arm Lift - I still like this kit and other than it being squeeky, haven't heard much in the way of negatives. It seems for the money to be rather complete with the front and rear track bars, drop pitman, etc where some of the kits like the RE do not (until you're spending big bucks on their top of the line kit). I found the kit online with the M-Force monotube shocks for $1200.
CV Driveshaft - HELP!!! As recommended, I checked into Tom Woods . . . their prices were better than RubiconExpress, but I'm confused as RE has the DrvSft for $400 and it says that my Rubi will need the CV Yoke which is another $105 . . . the Tom Woods site has a CV DrvSft (1310) with a CV Socket Flange for $300. I'm clueless as to all this and would love some insight as to what exactly I need for my Rubi seeing that is has the SYE and which set up, company, etc is the best.
Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier - I've kinda narrowed it down and would love to hear from those of you that have had these products . . . I still like the Rock Hard ($725), but the tire seems to stick out pretty far and it doesn't seem to have the telescoping feature to bring it in closer to the Jeep. But at this point, I'm kinda leaning toward the Shrockworks ($930) one that Chips mentioned . . . I'd love to talk to some people that have them but it sure looks great . . . It's got everything the Rock Hard does, but also has extensions that protect the corners of the tub (uh. . .um . . . Josh:D) and the telescoping feature so the tire doesn't stick way out. I was kinda thinking that the difference might not be worth extra $200 bucks, but after checking out how much those corner guards are, I'm thinking a bit of prevention might be worthwhile.
Tires and Wheels - Hoping to find a nice deal on a wheel and tire package . . . my only dilema is that I still do like my Rubi wheels which means that I'll have to spend the money on something that I like as much or more . . . the black steelies just aren't doin' it for me!!!
Is there anything that I'm missing? Once I decide on all the parts, I've got to figure out whether to take a week off of work to do the install, or to take it to a shop!!!
mrchips 02-26-08, 07:51 PM I am looking to go to black steel rims, so will have no need for my 1" spacers, let me know if you are interested,
Josh , your jeep look,s really sweet bro...gives ya a little more guts on the trails huh?? Joe glad to hear the pooch is feelin better..I,d say go with your gut on your jeep whatever suits ya..my 2 cents..maybe I,ll see you guys on that run on the 15th?? Later Geeb.

lol. only thing it gave me was bigger rocks I can get over......
thanks for the compliment geeb
I know a little bit about this, but I'm no expert. A CV yoke is just a plain old yoke with shaved down shoulders. A CV flange is a flat plate instead of a yoke. A CV flange adapter is then used to connect to the CV joint. In my opinion, you should skip the flange entirely if you can and use u-bolt yokes. Those flanges add an inch per flange assembly. You need all the inches you can get with such a short rear driveshaft. I have a flange on my 8.8 rearend and it really serves no purpose. I just left it there so I didn't have to mess with the pinion nut and potentially jack up the pinion depth. It's temporary on mine anyway until I get the SYE and that's waiting on the AW4... that's another story.

I forget their name, but I saw the wheels at the SEMA show in November. They split in the centers and lock both beads in with a hard rubber center. Those hard rubber centers also act as a guard for your wheel so your wheel lip will never come into contact with the ground should you lose all air pressure. I wish I could remember the name. I'm sure it's no "sweet deal", but that would be an ideal setup!

Yoke.(left side of the pic, in the middle)?
I've already got the SYE on my Rubi . . . does that make a difference as to the set up I need to go with?
Shadly1 02-28-08, 06:56 PM I've already got the SYE on my Rubi . . . does that make a difference as to the set up I need to go with?Well, if you have a CV yoke already, you wouldn't need to buy one. It's personal preference as to what setup you end up with. There are pros and cons to both. I like the yoke style because I can use a longer driveshaft and that means decreased angles. The flange style allows for interchangeability and more strength if you buy an upgraded shaft.
If you already have a SYE, what are you using? Are you going from a single cardan style to a double cardan? If so, the absolute easiest and cheapest route would be to get the double cardan version of the style you already have.
\ CV yoke , flange, single cardan, double cardan?
:DYeah . . . that's mostly Greek to me . . . I've got whatever a stock Rubi comes with and want whatever would be the best set up (without breaking the bank of course:D) to go with a 4" lift and 33's. Dude, I just learned that the sway bar and track bar are two different things!

I'd assume it's a flange since those are the easiest on an assembly line.
Single Cardan- One u-joint. Everything on my YJ is single cardan. Most driveshafts are single cardan.
Double Cardan- Two u-joints at one end. It's what makes a CV joint a CV joint.
Your stock Rubi stuff should be plenty good for a dual purpose vehicle unless you REALLY beat on it.

I just need a longer drive shaft to go with the lift so I don't have to drop the belly pan.
Check out this deal . . . http://www.4x4groupbuy.com/store/rubicon-express-re7000-superflex-combo-p-40.html
I've got an email out to them to see what they'd substitute for the SYE as I have one on my Rubi, but was thinking at that price, I may go with the RE kit as I think this is their best Short Arm kit and comes with the upper adjustable control arms, etc. Aren't the SYE's a couple hundred bucks? Maybe I can get them to throw the RE Monotube shocks to match instead? Seems like I'd be getting the upgraded kit for about the same price as what I was planning with the FullTraction Kit.

If they can't take $$$ off of your price you could probably sell the SYE for $150-$200ish on craigslist/mjr/somewhere. It might be hard to get upwards of $200 because it's only ~$250 new. I know yours will be new but not selling it as a retailer automatically makes the price go down. That could help offset the cost of the kit. Good luck, and hurry up and buy something... this thread is 5 pages and nothing is actually happening!!! :P
I thought Rubicons had a fixed yoke transfer case... :dunno:

You're probably right . . . I just know that the Rubi doesn't need the SYE. The guy told me he'd take $100 off the price . . . I plan to call this weekend to see if I can get a good package deal with the lift, wheels, tires, driveshaft, etc. Don't worry guys . . . this tread will be over soon!!!
I'm now leaning more towards the Rubicon Express 4.5" lift vs the Full Traction 4" as the RE is only about $300 more and comes with the upper adjustable control arms and if I do decide down the line to go to 35's I'd only need a 1" BL. Also a little extra clearance might not be bad once she's all loaded up with tools, tire carrier, winch, etc. Does anyone know if the upper control arms and extended brake lines are difficult to install? I think we did just about everything else when Josh got his lift and it wasn't too tough.
FYI . . . my fridge and bar will be full at the time I do the install if anyone would like to lend a hand!!!

I've seen those puppies online for $125. That's not bad. Who is it? I could use a deal on a CV shaft and SYE in a few months.

Those items are very easy to install. Just make absolutely sure you have the skills(or a buddy with skills) to properly bleed your brakes when you're done and DEFINITELY pay attention to the torque specs.

If you feel like dragging all that crap to Calico next month, I'm all over it!
Well I struck out this weekend at the 4WheelParts sale, but just got thru ordering the Full Traction 4" Kit with the M-Force shocks and a Tom Wood's Rubicon Rear DriveShaft. No turning back now!!! Still looking for a good tire and wheel deal and still deciding between the Shrockworks and RockHard rear bumper/tire carrier.
Hey Joe,, Finally brother...I,ve been waiting to hear those words..(I ordered it)LOL..Congrats lookin forward to seein the finished product!! Later Geeb,
womb raider 940 03-10-08, 02:47 PM Hmm you have to get wheels and tires now.....or you can do spacers and keep your stock wheels.
rickashay 03-10-08, 05:06 PM Hey Joe, glad to see you made the order. Sure I'll come over the hill and help with the fridge...um bar I mean lift.Let me know.
womb raider 940 03-10-08, 05:07 PM I will bring a chair and supervise with a cooler of my favorite beverage.
Mr. Orange 03-11-08, 10:23 PM Well , how bout that. Ol Schmo got a lift. Guess I will be the only stocker left.
And about that stocked fridge....hmmmm. I will stop by for lunch and check on the 'superviser' .
Well congrats ol buddy. Can't wait to install it. Should be a good time. With Josh and I telling you what to do, it will go quick. :)
I have go know, starting to feel a little jealous.
monsterubi 03-11-08, 11:49 PM I have the rockhard rear bumper, tie in brackets, two gas can mounts, and a 37" bogger on a steel wheel. It is very solid. The high lift mount is great it doesnt rattle therefore it wont wear out the pins in it. I installed it last july and havent had a problem yet. I also got the third brake light that mounts in the center of the wheel. I highly recommend this bumper.
womb raider 940 03-12-08, 10:06 PM anything new?????
anything new?????
Not yet . . . decided on the Rock Hard bumper/carrier . . . I figured I'd order it along with the wheels/tires this week . . . just need to find some time to make the calls and for someone (hint, hint) to hook me up with the # to call. Sent in the measurements for my driveshaft yesterday . . . that and the lift should come pretty quick so I'd better hurry up with the wheels/tires! Might look a bit funny rollin' with a 4" lift on bald 31's!:D
Well I think that's it . . . for now anyway. Just ordered the Rock Hard Bumper/Tire Carrier and a set of 5 33" MTR's on 15" wheels . . . also ordered a Warn Diff Cover for the front. Hopefully everything will come this week, so I can start on the install this weekend!:D Now if I can just keep the paychecks coming . . . I'll be looking at a front bumper and winch next . . . then it'll just be down to armoring the hell out of her and I'll be set!!!
womb raider 940 03-17-08, 12:15 PM cool it's about time
So I received my new driveshaft today . . . kinda bummed though as I recevied a call regarding the Full Traction lift which was in stock when I placed the order, but is now mysteriously on back order and the ETA is the beginning of April:( Hopefully I'll get my diff guard and tire carrier soon so I can at least throw those on while I wait for the Lift.
Got a question for you all . . . the tag on the new driveshaft says it's 16 3/4" long . . . the measurement I took on my stock one with the 2" BB is 16 3/8". Does this sound right for a 4" Lift? I should probably mention that I measured my stock driveshaft while it was on the vehicle and the new one is 16 3/4" fully compressed and about 18.5" fully extended.
Everything minus the lift kit is here!!! The tires look huge next to my stockers:D It's really tempting to throw the tires on her right now! Hopefully I can get the RockHard bumper/carrier and my diff cover on this weekend and if luck is with me I'll have my lift next weekend.
One Rock Hard bumper and tire carrier installed and ready to go!!! Thanks to Rickashay for lending a hand:D The install overall went pretty well . . . no major mishaps, injuries, or broken items, but it was kinda tricky in a couple of spots. Getting the bolts and support plates behind the cross member was quite a thrill . . . I think that alone was a couple beers each for Rick and I! That and the nut that holds the hub together is 1 3/4 inches . . . good luck finding a wrench for that puppy . . . I couldn't even find a crescent wrench big enough but found a huge socket and 3/4" adapter which worked like a charm (20 bucks though . . . ouchy). I sure like it so far with 0 miles on it . . . looks good and tough, doesn't rattle when shaken, and has all the features I wanted...high lift mount and CB antenna mount...and a mess of add ons if I choose to put jerry cans, etc. (Yes Josh, you'll be happy to hear that the highlift is no longer on the front bumper!!!) Hopefully I'll like it as much after wheelin' with it! So I'm thinking I'll slap on the front diff guard tomorrow and if those new tires and wheels keep starin' at me I'll probably throw them on too:D.
Anybody know where I can find a good deal on some D Rings? I'd really like a red pair if I could find them . . . saw it in a mag and the red looked cool:D
WOOHOO I just heard that my lift kit shipped yesterday or Wednesday!!! It's on like Donkey Kong now baby:D I kinda doubt it will arrive by this weekend which might be a good thing as it'll give me a chance to read over the instructions a couple of times and familiarize myself with all the parts, where they go, etc, next week. Can't wait!!!

I'm the first to admit that I'm not even close to being a pro at this stuff, so anybody that knows their way around a jeep and would like to stop by . . . come on over . . . the beer is chillin' in the fridge! Pizza does sound good . . . I'm sure we can work that in.
HUGE THANKS to Josh (Tomb Raider 940), Rick (Rickashay), and David (Mr. Orange)for all their help!!!:D You guys RULE!!! No way I could have done this with out you.
Although we were hoping to have her all buttoned up and maybe even try to do a bit of wheeling today, the lift install apparently had a different plan. We've got it about 3/4 of the way done and just need to finish up the rear end and install the new driveshaft, and then get it over to an alignment shop. Overall, the install went pretty smooth and there were no major mishaps other than a couple of bumps, cuts, and bruises . . . it's just a long process. The kit was missing the rear track bar bracket, but luckily when Josh got his lift they forgot to include some part and sent him 3 or 4 of the rear trackbar brackets instead of what he actually needed . . . which sure was a pain for Josh, but worked out nicely for me, seeing that I would have probably been waiting another week for that part to arrive!!! Doesn't seem like these 4x4 parts places pay much attention to detail when putting the parts in the box. I'll be sure to post up some pics when she's all done!!!:D
