Rick, I'd like to join you just for the day on Saturday. I'm bringing a friend. Are you still planning to do the potluck? Everyone bring what they want, or do you want to give out assignments?
Also, anyone want to run White Mountain on Saturday? either instead of or in addition to Dishpan?

Old Fart 08-27-08, 10:32 AM Is Holcomb Creek open yet?
No, not yet
Ray (cbrazor1), Josh (Tomb Raider), and Schmo will be meeting at the Dishpan trailhead on Sat @ 10am. Our plan is to run Dishpan from the Arrowhead side, up to Gold Mtn, then John Bull. We'll be camping up in BB somewhere. Not sure what the plan is for Sun just yet . . . sounds like Ray might do some fishin', but I'll be up for some more trails before heading out whenever on Sunday. Where/When's everybody meeting on Sunday? Hope to see some of you guys out there this weekend . . . feel free to meet up with us at the trailhead if you'd like some company!
Sure looks like alot going on up in B.B. Have many things going on with the family this weekend, but maybe, just maybe I'll be able to get out Sunday and if I do for sure I'll run into you guys up there. But if not, be safe and have a great time!
Tomb Raider 940 08-28-08, 09:53 PM I sure hope we can find some rocks to play on up there.
mybrokenjeep 08-29-08, 12:14 AM Schmo, are you guys meeting at the 3N34 side of Deep Creek where the bridge is?

I would enjoy some company for White Mountain on Sunday. I will be at the Discovery center around 9:30-10ish. After White Mountain, I am joining a Land Rover group that is going to run John Bull.
White Rubicon LJ on 35's
Schmo, are you guys meeting at the 3N34 side of Deep Creek where the bridge is?
UHHHH UMMMMM :dunno: Whatever the Wells book has listed as the trail head on the Arrowhead side is where we'll be meeting. I've only been there once and don't remember much about the trail other than the waterfall.
These #s mean nothing to me, but this is what the book has listed for the trailhead:
34 16 10.3 - Latitude North
117 08 13.4 - Longitude West
Hope to see you guys up there!
New2image 08-29-08, 02:27 PM Well dammit I started this thread and I have a situation where I cannot Go! Hey Guys I have a group meeting at the hotel and going to Crab Flats and doing the trail from Big Bear down to the Creek! Please all you guys have fun and I will fill you in on details later. That was a great day of wheelin', I had a blast! Ray, Jose, Randy, Russ, Josh, and I met in Arrowhead and ran Dishpan, Gold Mtn, and John Bull. We made it off of John Bull at about 9:30 and all went our separate ways . . . I wasn't feeling very good so hit the road and headed home vs. pitching a tent. Thanks for the pics Josh . . . can't wait to see more:D Sure was great wheelin' with you all . . . looking forward to the next trip:D
Hey Ray . . . did you find out what was causing the problem with your Jeep? Hope you made it down the hill safely.
Tomb Raider 940 08-31-08, 06:02 PM You can see JOE here doing his rain dance.

Russ Chung 09-01-08, 08:05 AM Jose (Ray's son) gets some air in his TJ on the Dishpan waterfall:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3442.jpg
On the next try, Jose makes it up the right side:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3445.jpg
Next, it was Ray's (cbrazor1) turn. He drove his white YJ up the right side of the waterfall:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3448.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3451.jpg
This was Josh's (Tomb Raider 940) first time driving in Big Bear. He said that he rode motorbikes there when he was younger. He took his Rubicon up the Dishpan waterfall using a different route (one that I have never seen anyone take before):
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3454.jpg
After getting through the hard part of the obstacle, he got stuck:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3458.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3465.jpg
I tried the right side of the waterfall, but couldn't make it, so I took the left side:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3470.jpg
I didn't even notice that I "tweaked" my left fender until I saw this picture:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3472.jpg
Joe (Schmo) made it up the right side of the obstacle so quickly, we hardly had time to snap his picture:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3477.jpg
Randy (mybrokenjeep) took his red CJ-7 up the right side:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3482.jpg
Russ Chung 09-01-08, 08:33 AM After we ran Dishpan, we aired up so we could take the paved roads to Gold Mountain. My friend, Nancy Cox, is visiting from Florida and had never driven a 4WD vehicle, so I decided to initiate her on the Gold Mountain trail. First, I had to get her appropriately dressed for the trail:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3484.jpg
We are following Joe (Schmo) and Jose (Cbrazor's son) just after the start of the trail:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3496.jpg
Nancy is nervously gripping the wheel as she takes my TJ over a small ledge. Notice the white knuckles and the tweaked left fender from my earlier mishap (see earlier post):
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3498.jpg
A few raindrops on the windshield; it helped keep the dust down. I didn't use my dust mask the rest of the day:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3514.jpg
A view of the Lucerne Valley from the Gold Mountain trail:

Nancy driving my Jeep on the Gold Mountain trail:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3511.jpg
After the rain stopped, we got a nice view of Big Bear Lake:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3520.jpg
Nancy had some difficulty with this wash out, and Randy helped spot her. We eventually used a recovery strap to get her through. She felt bad about needing the strap, but I explained that my Jeep has open diffs and is on 31 inch tires, so it was the "weakest" Jeep in the group:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3522.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Big%20Bear%202008-8-30/IMGP3529.jpg
After finishing the Gold Mountain trail, the rest of the group went over to John Bull, but Nancy and I decided that a margarita at the Sonora Cantina was beckoning, so we headed back. Along the way, we stopped at the mine to take a few photos:

New2image 09-01-08, 09:35 AM Again I kicking myself because I couldnt go...Health reasons...not good stuff. Anyways looks like you guys had fun and if anybody needs to get a hold of me email new2image@aol.com I will fill you in.
Materdaddy 09-01-08, 10:58 AM Your run reports always tell such a good story Russ, you rock! Thanks for sharing! Looks like all you guys had a good time!
I drove up to Big Bear on Sunday, saw a Jeep that I thought was Josh's (TombRaider) heading the other way, so I called him and he's at home chill'n, said everyone split for home early in the morning.
So I spend the day with my Land Rover buddies. Wow was that slow. They made it through John Bull, but it was an effort. Still, I was impressed that a very stock unlocked Discovery on 31" street tires could make it though, with only a minor tug here and there. We got them through the gatekeeper and first hill surprisingly easy, but had to work hard on the second hill and then the boulder obstacle near the top.
