View Full Version : My Custom Onboard Air
I had some friends custom fab me some brackets and a battery tray to do this. I kept my A/C, added an additional compressor, and kept the battery in the same location. I just have to finish plumbing it and add a air tank (custom of course silly). I can air up tires as is. Enjoy.

Too bad for some reason I can't directly post the photos in this forum.
Dukes69 06-25-03, 11:10 AM IMG code got turned off, somehow. It'll get fixed soon
RatherBeJeeping 06-25-03, 11:27 AM I'll be having to do the same thing after my engine swap. But I figured I'd just drop the Jeep off at Kilby's and see what he comes up with.

Dukes69 06-25-03, 10:39 PM Are there any plans for these brackets? Who do I have to hunt down to get um? :D

Actually Hammerite paint from Home Depot and black wrinkle paint from the local auto parts store.
Trailbst 06-28-03, 10:57 AM Inexpensive, good looking, but is it as durable??
Time will tell. It's meant for wrought iron stuff. I think is is actually better to paint it over rust.
NAILER341 06-28-03, 02:05 PM i like the look of the hemerite... but it doesnt do well with chemicals... "super clean" takes the paint off...
i still use it, just in areas that dont come in contact with chemicals.
There are some cleaners that are concentrated. I used one once to clean underhood and it messed up some of my factory underhood labels. Simple Green is all I will use now.
Trailbst 06-29-03, 06:18 AM I don't know if it will make you feel any more confident about Simple Green, but that is what we used on the Submarines to clean them.
carrizojim 06-29-03, 06:32 AM We use a big heated tank of it to clean carbon and just about everything else off of aluminum at the turbine factory, works amazingly well at about 150 degrees... Makes stuff look like new... dont leave it too long or it will start to etch the finish...
cbremer 07-07-03, 01:27 PM looks good, mike! are you using grease (i noticed the Zerk fitting on the oil fill plug) or just oiling it with a zerk so you don't have to unscrew the plug?
i'm jealous... my A/C is long gone :D (but i do have an air tank that fits under the hood :8 )
JeepGal 07-07-03, 01:58 PM NICE FAB WORK!
You think a girl could coerce him into making another set???:P  :D
LOL...just kidding...they are real nice though!

That's how it comes from Extreme Outback Products with a grease fitting. I don't know where the instructions are and it says in there somewhere what kind of grease to use.
And oh I used my A/C this weekend to boot.
Trailbst 07-08-03, 07:18 AM Sweet setup MJR, having A/C and OBA.

Thanks. Now I just need to get off my arse to make a air tank for underneath the Jeep and plumb it all so I don't have to run an open chuck. Then I will try some air tools out.
carrizojim 07-08-03, 04:41 PM Got mine from Kilby for $35, nice 2 1/2 gallons, powder coated, they have larger ones for very reasonable prices...

I would except the problem is I want a custom one. The normal hot dog tanks don't fit well under a XJ. What I want is 2.5-5 gal and not hang down below the frame rails or anywhere else. I need to get under there and see what I can come up with.
NAILER341 07-08-03, 11:27 PM post some pictures of this tank. i'd like to see this custom design. the rest of your parts look great.
CherokeeFever 07-09-03, 10:39 AM Those brackets look really good. What size of drivebelt did you use when you mounted it? And what Sanden model number did you use for the compressor? Your compressor looks like a couple of model numbers of Sanden compressors found on most Medium/Heavy Truck AC systems. Also, that compressor looks like a fixed mount unit. How much for the plans for the brackets or to have a set made? My email is in my profile.
TeraCrush 03-13-04, 06:02 PM Airtight your front bumper and use it as your tank. Thats what we do.. Works great.
