I like how you angled the center bars. I found the trickiest part was getting the side bars lined up for the door surrounds so the soft upper doors closed tight. Otherwise it's a pretty easy install... when do you plan on testing it out? :)

lookin' good, guys!
did you get the whole thing in there in one day?
we missed you all on the trail, but it looks like you were being productive.
get those gears done, and lets get that rig of yours in the rocks! :duh:

Kiwi, you'll have to talk to Rick for the specs on that :D
They just sent Tam and I to the store when they needed stuff, hehe.

Erik, we missed you too! Due to the restrictions of time and space, we didn't get a full day in on Saturday so it took several hours on Sunday to get it finished up. We painted her Hammerite (?) black, and it looks HOT!

Let me finish up my work for the nite, and I'll download the rest of the pics from the card.
Woohoo!

you may want to consider welding the stock windshield mounting brackets to the cage to stiffen up the windshield. just a thought. looks really good though.:D

just support in general, not totally sure it's necessary. yes, mine is that way so I don't really know if you'll notice anything without it. You'll have to let us know.:)

Yeah, we sorta looked at that and went "eh"... I guess my thought is if the windshield is going to move, it's going to have to break a 5/16" bolt off and if that's the case, it's probably something bad. It didn't move or shake or anything in the seemingly gale force winds coming home, but the hard top is also on. We'll see how it looks with no top in a wind and I'll watch the windshield bolt heads to see if it rubs the paint from moving. It did come out nice, minus a few weld boogers from my crappy attempts at welding... :D

Well... it mostly rocks. It was a very good fit through the dash, which I think is pretty impressive considering how tight it is in there. We had to do a few things that weren't mentioned in the instructions, so we weren't sure if they were oversights in the instructions or what. I still need to talk to EOR.

Turd welds??? That is what grinders are for! And bondo! ;)

Just how tight is it? How much "stuff" did you have to move around behind the dash (vent ducts, wire harnesses, etc)?

i secured my booty fab cage to the windshield. i figure it adds great ridgidity to the whole structure. in a roll over the windshield is toast anyway, so you may as well use its valuable strength. ;)
IMO

there's no dust in the desert! :P even if there were it would come in over the top, thru the rear and thru the missing doors ... and that's what the shop vac is for, hehe

Besides, with the windshield folded down, if you roll it, it's less likely to destory it.

I disagree, unless you secure it to the hood very wel it will be flapping in the wind as your jeep tumbles down the hill. in that case i really doubt the windshield would matter much.

11-17-04, 02:53 PM
Well...yeah, wouldn't you be securing it to the hood so it's not flapping around as you go bumping over the rocks anyway?

rick
11-17-04, 05:15 PM
Actually, you are more likely to damage the hood/windshield just from putting it down than from rolling it. The hood is not very good at absorbing shock loads like the windshield bouncing up and down on it off road... I think it would be nearly impossible to strap it tight enough that it didn't move at least a bit, and if you did it would probably bend the hood from being too tight...

If you look at Tracy's Roll (http://www.toysbytroy.com/Video_Files/TracyRoll_Small.wmv), you will see that one of the first things that happens is that the hood latches give up the ghost and the hood starts flapping faster than Hillary Clinton's lips at a Pentacostal church (http://www.nationalreview.com/issue/long200411160825.asp).

The hood and windshield are a lost cause in a rollover serious enough to test your cage extension, unless you run bolts through the hood and down to the frame.

i like the cage it looks nioce im actually currently lloking inot buying one, i was gonna go with MORE, but i was swayed away from that one, but now i was lloking at the tennesse off road and the EOR, what i was wondering is how much did all of this set you back, minus the welding being done. i really like the look of it

the tj cage is $300. we are talking to EOR to see what kind of deal we can get with a group buy, once we have enough people interested.

I may have just missed it but what did the install cost on top of the $300 for the cage kit?

Thanks, Jason

cool, they are mailing us their marketing package, so we'll let you know as soon as we get it figured out. this would be for southern california or the "southwest" and pick up only. we will not ship.

rock-it man (http://www.rock-itman.com) will be taking care of the installs, if you so choose, at $450 each. plan on the install taking a full day.

$450 includes install?

rick
02-09-05, 02:50 PM
No, $450 to install the cage. You buy the cage with the options, etc you want (thus price varies). I haven't seen any $450 complete installed cage packages out there yet... ;) But I'll be sure and let everyone know if I find one!

Hahah, love your avatar!

We are going to be meeting EOR at TDS, and he is supposed to be giving us group buy & reseller information. So, I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks, but the good thing is that everyone going to TDS will be able to see the cage, provided Rick gets his installed in time.

I'm pretty sure EOR is going to have a cage there, but I'm not 100% that it will be in a Jeep. I'm going to try and get my hardtop off tomorrow if this rain clears up, and get some shots of the TJ cage in action.

We're still not sure on the "group/dealer" price. You can visit their site and order one directly from them though. Check out Rock-It Man for installs and other goodies. We'll update with anything we find out.
