View Full Version : 1/8" plate
NAILER341 02-25-05, 12:45 PM well, after slamming the side of my jeep into some rocks, and smashing it all up, i decided to put some plating on there to protect it better, and cover up the damage.
i picked up some 1/8" heat treated plate at m&k and proceeded to cut some out to fit the rear quarter pannels with my cool new [used] plasma cutter.
how did i ever live without this thing.
i made up a method of using some heavy wire to trace with the plasma cutter tip. it works excelently.
i used splay wire that is used for t-bar ceilings, and either clamped it to the plate, or tack welded it to the trash side.
i highly recommend this method for using the plasma cutter to maintain a nice smooth arc.
here are some pictures.

Yeah, I don't see any pictures...
cbremer 02-25-05, 06:38 PM erik, if you plan on doing more of these (or several copies of anything with the plasma), my brother, who uses a plasma cutter daily, recommends making a template out of some 1/2" or thicker plywood and clamping it to the metal you're cutting, then following the template with the plasma cutter torch.
just thought you'd like to know
the new armor looks great, btw :D
NAILER341 02-25-05, 06:44 PM Yeah, I don't see any pictures...

it would take much more than a paint color to be as cool as the one... the only, the blktj. :yay:
but, thank you for the compliment on the plating.
Any plans on making more of these?
I need some rear armor and woul rather give a local jeeper the money
NAILER341 02-28-05, 06:06 PM well, to be honest, i am not in the business of selling these. i just made them for my jeep.
if you really wanted some, i could get you in contact with a couple of people that may be able to help you.
it would be best to have the jeep so that the plating fits properly.
