I have a 98 cherokee and am planning on putting a new cat on it. Now, on the 98's I have to have a OBD2 cat correct? Or can I just get a universal unit? And to be sure, the OBD2 is for the O2 sensor right? Thanks.

Other then that they are universal. Thistlebarb 02-28-05, 07:49 AM If your current Catalytic Converter has an O2 sensor then your aftermarket must have one to pass the visual inspection. Understand this is just the visual portion, if your exhaust is too free flowing, you may run into smog test issues. Info for CA: http://www.arb.ca.gov/bluebook/bb04/hea44012/hea_44012.htm If I may be so bold as to ask you a question......... Is there a reason you wish to open your exhaust? Muffler and larger pipes are good for a little HP gain, however, if you are doing any off-roading, you want the torque, the bigger the exhaust the less back-pressure you will have. You'll go faster, but if you are lifted in the leaset it will take a lot longer in your excelleration and any sort of hill climbing. My 3 cents. redneckxj 03-01-05, 06:53 PM Yeah, that makes sence, but I am screwed because my cat is bad, and i have no muffler (I don't even want to try and explain haha). So I have to do something. Does anyone know where to get a cat that has a spot for the o2 sesor for a cherokee. I looked at summitracing.com, but the one that they say my cherokee needs doen't have a spot for the o2, and niether does their universal ones. Thanks for the info.
