JeepGal 07-28-03, 05:04 PM Ive had a few people ask me for these pics...so here ya are...
The parts can be bought at Home Depot for about $5...

I tuck my arms up in that pocket, though I dont know if all tj years have it...they stay up there with no problem...I know that the Rubicons cant get them in there...
Let me know if you have any questions...
Tam

Actually, I came up with a fix for that problem. I was jealous, and I wanted my links up in the pocket too.:P
I took a 12" crecent wrench and bent the offending piece of sheet metal out of the way so the sway bar can be pushed up another inch, which allows the link end to get into the "pocket".:D
Cool Disco's, I made a disconnect for YJ track bars using those pins. But then again, what YJ needs track bars. I use the pins on my sway-bar disco, good ol pry off sway bar technique.
Fyi, this is only good for about 2-3" of spring lift. More than that and the angle of the sway bar becomes to much for it to operate properly connected. just my $.02.
NAILER341 07-30-03, 10:53 AM nice write up tam!
Dukes69 07-31-03, 12:32 AM Very Nice Tammy:D I will say that these work just as well as the $120 disco's. I've seen um in action, very cool mod. :8
fdeuce2x 09-24-03, 12:47 AM I may have to Try that on mine, See if I get some more flex out of it..

I believe this will only work on TJ's. You might want to check that out before you buy all the parts. :8
jt_jeep 10-13-03, 07:15 PM I did the same thing for my YJ since I can't use my old jks disco anymore because my coil spring conversion.
here the links

cheap and works...:)
JeepJunkie 06-08-04, 02:53 PM Im bringing this thread back to LIFE because i want to know if this will work on an XJ with 2 inches of lift?

Its possible that it can work for an XJ . . . you just need to figure out how. The pin is the same, but XJ sway bar links dont have the little swivel deal where they connect to the sway bar. They just have a rubber bushing. You can probably use the pin and figure out a way to swing the whole mess up and out of the way.
Zip Ties! :D
JeepJunkie 06-08-04, 07:18 PM well it works it is just HARD to get the sway bar re-aligned, but it could be for 2 reasons; 1:my car isnt on level ground and 2: the backend is jacked up with the axle drooping:D
I think if it was flat it would work tho, ill have to find out later when im sittin level.

yeah, it can be tough to do. i hate that part :D
JeepGal 06-08-04, 07:48 PM In other words...
Its normal to have problems getting the swaybar hooked back up if youre not on level ground.
Tam :)
yeah, what she said :D
thanks tam
tjrubicon 06-10-04, 12:02 PM I've done this to both my TJs, thanks to the nice recipe I found here on MJR. I haven't had a single problem. Now then, can you believe someone is selling these on ebay for 25 - 30 bucks a set?(no offense meant if its on of you guys)

I had fun Larry, by the way, how many fish you catch...lol
going to go get my hardware today, see if I can get twisted up a little bit too!!:sarah:
GreenMachine 09-10-05, 03:27 PM after tearing the ball out of the socket of my passenger side stabilizer bar and purchasing a new one, I stopped by homie depot and picked up the parts listed.
thanks for the tip! this was the simplist mod yet, and it definitely prevent me from tearing apart another one!
maddmike 05-13-06, 08:27 PM I have one modification to the recipe listed by JeepGal. I used 1/2" diameter clevis pins instead of 7/16". The 7/16" were a bit loose so if you buy 1/2" pins, you can pound them into the sway bar bushing with a hammer so they fit tight (they stay in while on the trail), and the 1/2" shank diameter is almost exactly the diameter of the hole in the sway bar attachment flange coming from the axle.
tighter fit = less rattles on the street :)
JeepGal 05-13-06, 09:49 PM I found that they were too tight. I wanted the looseness when I was trying to put them back in after a day of wheeling. If they are too snug, it was hard for me to line them back up. But if it works for you, great :)
Tam :)
Thanks for the write-up Tam!!
I bought double everything so I'd have spares and it cost me $10.
It took me all of ten minutes to do the swap, it's easy but if you don't have a set of Torx sockets, you'll need one to get the stock bolt out.
I added a safety wire "leash" to the pin to keep it from making an escape and I can tug on the wire to pull the out the pin.

I know this is an old thread but here is something:
On my Xj, I just unscrew the top nut (15 mm) and using a long pry bar, move the anti-sway bar up and tie wrap it in place on one side through the big hole in the fender well. Then I remove the bushings and put them in a box with the nut and wash. I put a piece of 11/32" rubber hose over the threads and leave the connector sticking up. The rubber bushing on the lower end will keep it in place.
I works for me. I use a short pry bar to put it back in place. Takes about two minutes to disconnect and two minutes to reconnect. I use blue locktite on the nut when I reconnect.
Can this same fix be applied to the rear axle?
Just wondering if it even needs to be discoed.

Its not required to be disconected. However, I've been running w/o a sway bar in the rear for several years with no problems. Its a personal preference thing, I think.

I have the sway bar removed. It is not needed. The factory XJ up country also has this as a delete option (reason is the rear leaf is stiffer).
crawlin92 08-19-07, 01:17 PM I just did this. And i love it! The cable ties just hold the pins from rattling around and what-not.
