Dukes69 05-31-03, 09:27 PM Might be getting a TJ soon!! This is happening quicker than I thought. I'll either sell the XJ, or part it out (which I would HATE to do). Jim do you still want to buy it?? My XJ that is :D

NAILER341 06-01-03, 11:11 AM RIGHT ON, MANG! i hope this works out for you bro.... did you find out what exactly was wrong with it?
Dukes69 06-01-03, 02:20 PM Rear end is howling and it probably needs a tranny. Rear end is not a big deal, its the D35c, so I'd replace it anyway. The tranny isnt really a big deal either. I'd like to swap in an AW4 to get an overdrive :D
what the hell will we do now that your not getting stuck anymore???!!!
Buy it.. move on... have fun!!!:yay:
Dukes69 06-02-03, 12:51 AM Trust me, I'll still be getting stuck . . . but just on bigger shit :D :duke:
the down side to this will be that the tj has no windows to break.
only the windshield. what will you do to entertain us
Dukes69 06-03-03, 09:43 PM I'll dance a jig :D
chris, i'll take you up on that.

HUH, Previous page . . . where  :P
um, when you hit the back button?
so what's the deal now with this JP??? did you get her or what?
Dukes69 06-19-03, 05:59 PM well, heres the story:
My cousin went out to take a look at it on Tuesday. She called me and we chatted about it for awhile. I had her check the computer to see if there were any codes that popped up. None came up, so thats good. Now being from sunny Southern California we needn't worry about snow/road salt and rust, but when your from RI it becomes a bit of a concern. Its got rust, not much and its mostly on the aftermarket bolt-on junk. I've just been looking at pictures and thinking long and hard about what its going to need, time and money wise. So after thinking about it, I have pretty much decided to buy stock in POR-15 and go at this MF'r!!! My thinking is this: You can't touch a STOCK 98 4.0 TJ for $6k, not even with a 10 foot poll. And this one has alot of goodies and junk :D I'm waiting til next week when my cousin can drive it . . . it doesnt have a rear driveshaft, he's getting a new TW made up!! :D
So there you go!!
Dukes69 06-19-03, 06:00 PM Cliff's notes:
I'm gunna buy it . . . Soon!!
NAILER341 06-20-03, 08:20 AM hurry up mang!
the rubicon is right arround the corner:duke:
Congrats. Marshall's a good guy. Friend of mine and I wheeled with him enough to know the heep hasn't been abused (kinda babied it actually). Like ya said, six grand for that thing is a steal, enjoy it and I hope to hell he gets another one soon.......west coasters stealing all our TJ's ;) .
Dukes69 06-20-03, 05:26 PM Hey drack . . . glad you made it to the board. I know Tam was asking you about this Jeep. Thanks for your input, and any and all is appriciated. Its nice to hear from someone that knows the Jeep in question and knows how its been used.
I'll keep you all posted.
Dukes69 06-24-03, 06:46 PM He just decided to back out of the deal:mad:
Dukes69 06-24-03, 08:35 PM About 2 hours ago:mad:
That sucks dude :( . Is he keeping it now or didn't he give ya a reason  ? Haven't talked to him in awhile...
Dukes69 06-24-03, 10:40 PM he said he was keeping it. I was really working on this deal, trying to get it to happen. I guess what noone really understands is, I've been out of a vehicle for 3 weeks. This doesnt help matters. The search continues, I suppose.:( :(
Well good luck with it man :8 . I saw your post over in the J4M Wanted to Buy section, if I see anything worthwhile around I'll shoot ya a line.
Dukes69 06-25-03, 10:39 AM What a Rollercoaster . . . Looks like he will sell it to me after all. What a day
Well...Tammy sent me this link & the sight looks great. This is Marshall (can't register as Bumpy98 since the TJ isn't gonna be mine anymore).
I just wanted to clearify the unfortunate Drama I caused Chris & the rest of you all...
You can say it all comes down to "Communication". I wasn't aware of all what Chris had already done...deposit on shipper, banker's check in cousin's hands, etc...
Also, I never heard anything from Chris in a week after his cousin looked at the Jeep (e-mail down) & started to get a feeling that he wasn't gonna buy my jeep, so I (then) decided to keep it for the summer. I wasn't sure how much the Jeep was gonna be taken off road because when his cousin & friend asked me if it was taken off road & I said yes, they reacted like I was insane...I was thinking, "Are they looking for a Posser Jeep?"
Needless to say, I am extremely happy it will be going to someone who will use it the way it was designed.
So the DS should be in this week...will take his cousin for a ride in the Jeep & it should be dropped off at the shippers on Monday, if all things go as planned!
Again, sorry Chris for all the stress I caused ya.
P.S....All the stuff you posted about my Jeep in terms of price, etc...It was pissing me off how your cousin's friend was the whole time because they know NOTHING about Jeeps & what a great deal you are getting...Even I know you are

Thank you Marshall!!
I'm not a street Jeeper by any stretch of the imagination. Just ask some of these fine folks. I knew it was a mistake to send a non-Jeeper to look at a Jeep, but it was to make my Mother feel more at ease.
we will be in touch.
Thank you
NAILER341 06-25-03, 12:47 PM jeez! this sure is a roller coaster! my therapist cant deal with all the mood swings this has caused me just watching it happen:D .

Dukes69 06-25-03, 04:20 PM I'm at the mercy of the transport company. SIGH
I AM YOUR POST !!!!!
love me
Well at 4:00 pm yesterday I was nailed from behind in stop & go traffic...4 car pile up, I was the third hit...Van nailed a Toyota Corolla & it hit me & I tried to swerve but just couldn't enough.
Pics of damage:

Luckily I can still drive it. The body shop (insurance co. recommended shop) I'm gonna use is gonna get me a rental from the insurance company of the guy in the Van. Might take 2-3 weeks to fix everything :(
The sad thing is I know if I was driving the Jeep...nothing would have been damaged :( But then it would have been in an accident
Chris...
Drive Shaft is in & on my desk!
I'll put it in when I get home.
Let me know about your cousin.
Dukes69 06-26-03, 12:30 PM Damn Marshall, Sorry to hear about your accident :( You're ok, thats all that matters. Cars can be replaced, people can't.
My cousin is suppose to call me today, if she doesnt call before 4:00 RI time, I will call her.
Thank you
Ok...just let me know by calling me on my Cell Phone...
Looks like I might be leaving work early to pick up that rental car...he's trying to get me a convertible :D
Got off the phone...NO Convertibles available  ..anyway, picking it up between 4:30-5pm EST..so I should be home by 5-5:30pm...I'll change & go put that DS in then!
Other parts won't probably be on, or I'll be just getting them on if/when your cousin shows up.
NAILER341 06-26-03, 08:43 PM jeez! you guys need to finish this deal! this takes longer than buying a house :D .. cant wait to see this thing wheel.
sorry about your accident, marshall:(
Dukes69 06-27-03, 12:35 AM Well . . .The Jeep is offically mine :D :D It will be on a truck tomorrow, Monday at the latest

cleaning? WTF??? don't start!!
congrats on your new piece of antiquated technology :D ;)
there's this great stuff called "Rust-Mort" that can help rid your Jeep of salt cancer :P
NP Chris...thanks again yourself.
Only problem I got myself into was that everything happened so quickly yesterday that I forgot to give my girlfriend one last ride around the block in it! I had promised her I would & she was very upset at me for forgetting, but also understood that I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off after I got off the phone with you & dealing with just getting the rental car because of my accident the day before. I got out of the shower to clean all the grease off me from putting in the DS & was like..."Oh SH#T! I forgot to give her a ride in the Jeep!" Oh well...I'll have another Jeep in like 4 months & will have pleanty of times to drive her in it.
The other thing I forgot was about my RI plates...just mail them to me when you mail back my copy of your signed reciept.
As for your cousin's friend (is he her b/f ?)...not to be rude but he is a KNOB!!! Definetly the poster child for..."It's a Jeep thing...You wouldn't understand"...HE definetly doesn't understand!" He kept saying that he would never buy it, but it's your decision. When they got back from thier test drive, he put his hand in front of the radiator & was like "there is too much heat coming from the radiator...I wouldn't buy this...etc..." WTF, idiot...it was in the 90s, he just drove in my Jeep that doesn't have A/C...of course there's gonna be heat comming out of the radiator and he's gonna feel that it is hotter! If it was over heating, the temp gage would have told him so
So I hope it gets back to CA safely! I will definetly try to make it out to your area sometime in the future!

Naa, Its not that bad, as far as I can tell. And I'm not talking about cleaning like washing/waxing type cleaning. I'm talkin tearing all the control arms out and rebuilding them, PB Blaster, and POR-15, ya know . . . go at it with a pair of pliers and a blow torch.:D :D
Rust-Mort??? Waas dat?

Hmmm . . . interesting. Looks like it kills the rust and then I paint it. I think I might have to try some of that on the body, and POR-15 for the frame and stuff
:D

No . . . not alot, but a little:D . Mostly on the aftermarket bolt on stuff and some on the windsheild hinge and the tailgate hinge. I'vce seen worse. But, ya know, out here in CA we get spoiled . . . no road salt, cause theres practically no snow :P

Yes, I'm sad, but I know it is going to a great home. Just really bad timing with my damn accident though...Have to drive a Chevy Malibu
I've already started my research on the next Jeep...AEV Rubicon & Currie Jeeps...Looks like when it's time to buy, I'll have to order it & wait like 3 months longer, unless I get too antsy...we'll see. Especially if I end up moving, it might be a good thing to not have 3 vehicles to move (a Jeep, my car & g/fs vehicle)...
Well...I hope the Jeep makes it to CA safely!
Off to Scottsdale, AZ I go in 6 hours :8

I still think you should go with the AEV, did you see my post on RockDawgs, I went and visited there a couple of times.
My borhters live in AZ & am visiting them.
Yah, the AEV is the way I'll probably go.

The Currie Helldorado is a pretty built up rig. good luck. Hopefully we'll see you in CA some time soon

My vote is for the AEV. Build it how you want it, brand new.
interesting, sounds like a good deal

I've seen it done in manual tranny TJ's, but not in Auto TJ's. All the write ups I've seen have been for 5 speed TJ's. I think in order for it to work properly, I would have to switch out the Auto PCM for a 5 speed PCM. Its will be interesting, thats for sure. :D

It would be cheaper because the shafter and the petals are there already. 1 would be 1-2, and 2 would be 3, and D would be 4. And from what I hear the aw4 is computer controled for the shafting un like the TJ 3 speed auto. So that means it shafts nice and soft up hills unlike the TJ 3 speed. It feels like it's going to die and never shaft. TJ 3 speed shafts really wired up hills(I don't think it likes being under load when shafting). If I had 4.56's my Jeep would go up any hills @ 100 mph easy without shafting. The gas millage would die that why I stayed @ 4.10's to help it out. The 4.10's seem to be close to stock with 30's with 3.73's. I like the 4.10's with 37's more, then I liked the 33's with 3.73's. Let me know how the swap goes. If you part the XJ you may want to keep a few things for the tranny swap, so you don't have to go buy them.

In some respects yes, it would be cheaper
I will need a manual PCM, otherwise the the auto PCM will be looking for the NSS and the torque converter lockup deal, and some other stuff. The manual PCM doesnt look for that, so it has no clue that an AW4 is in there.

I know, but still would be worth the swap to get O/D since it needs a tranny.

Oh ya with that low gear O/D will not matter that much unless you ride a big tire. With 4.10's and 36's I am turning 2,550 RPM's. with 33's or 35's with 4.88's with aw4 you will be turning about the same.
Dukes69 07-06-03, 05:14 PM about 2500 with 4.88's and an AW4 at 75 mph on 35's
Thats hardly any R's in my opinion

Yeah, its the 6. MT/R's are the tires.

I must go Lower! Well maybe not the 5.38's, but at least 4.56's to go with the 35's.
You can never be low enough, but on a auto you can only go so low and then your brakes won't work.
BTW why only 4 : 1? why not the new atlas 5 : 1 or something?

Then upgrade the brakes!! . . . I dont get it
Do you have money falling out of your ass, or what?

Do you wheel in mud? If you do, don't get MTR's. They suck in mud.

One thing with me I don't want to run 17" rims because the tire go up 2 times on what the 15's do.
Trailbst 07-06-03, 05:26 PM I'd have to look again at the numbers available from O'briens. I want to Keep my D18, I think they offer something like a 4.86:1. Not sure. Someday soon, I'll put my Overdrive back in. Nothing like 16 Forward, and 4 Reverse gears.
