Hey guys has anyone out there ever changed the wheel joints.
I have a 1988 wrangler and my wheel joints are shot. Im going to try to tackle this job myself. but I have never done this before can some help me through this. is there a C clip that
hold the axles in inside the diff. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Guys! R.K. :confused:

There are no c-clips that hold the axles in.
Step 1: Remove tire
Step 2: Remove cotter pin and large nut on end of axle
Step 3: 3 bolts on unit bearing
Step 4: remove unit bearing and axle
Step 5: Remove u-joint. A tool, like this:http://www.tooltown.org/auto/ball-joint-press.htm helps alot. you can probably rent on from your local parts house.
Step 6-done: Reverse of above.
Its really simple.
or does he mean unit bearing???

beats me, but if it is the unit bearing, just do half of the above :D

Hey dukes I checked and the wheel joints are real loose on both sides. so Im going to try to do the job next week . Much Thanks R.K. :)

hey dukes the u joints on the inside of the front wheels in the knuckles I think thats what their called. Im new to this. thanx RK
