Baja Sixer 08-21-03, 11:40 PM Anyone interested in going to the rock crawling championship in Johnson Valley? The event will be held on September 19, 20 and 21st. It was a blast to watch last year. I am planning to attend the finals on Sunday the 21st.

Everyone sing . . . "If I Only Had A ..."
JeepGal 08-24-03, 12:38 AM "I would wile away the hours...."
T :D
OK, OK, enough about socks and the Scarecrow... or was it the Lion... I can't remember... anyway... enough about that.
I can't get out there until Saturday morning, I figure I'll camp that night. We should plan on a BBQ. If someone can get out there Friday night and reserve us a spot that would be cool, but I don't think it's necessary.
Last year some guys did one of the hammer trails after the competition, that could be fun to watch as well if we can hook up with some folks. Anyway, is this a plan???

Andrew
Here is some info...
calrocs JV (http://www.calrocs.com/johnsonvalley/championship_2003.htm)
This is not an area of JV I've been to before. We need a meeting place. I believe Ricks place is kinda on the way. If we meet there we can also make sure Sarah is awake.;)
Andrew_TJ 09-17-03, 03:22 PM I've never met you guys before. I will be camping with a couple of my friends NEAR to the same location I camped last year (N34 23.543 W116 31.329). My camp site will probably be to the left side a long the dirt road a couple of miles before the dry lake bed. Any way, stop by and say "Hi" I'm driving a '97 Krylon rattle can Olive Drab Green TJ. My gun metal grey Cherokee should be close by. I hope to see you soon.
Andrew
Andrew_TJ 09-17-03, 04:01 PM I was reading the CalRock direction, it seems to me that the event is going to be ~20 from JV. It seems that the event is in Lucerne Valley at the intersection of Transmission line road and Granite road, is this true?
Andrew
so you guys are thinkin' saturday? baja sixer said that the championships are on sunday ... that's when they're going - i guess it really doesn't matter, sure we can meet at rick's! i'll wake up! ;)
Dukes69 09-17-03, 11:24 PM SARAH!!! Take the MJR Banner!!!!! if you go, that is :D :8
yeah, Saturday, let's do Saturday. Rick's place, 9am?

I guess we have to assume they wouldn't lie to us.:D
Andrew_TJ 09-18-03, 07:13 AM Since it's not at JV, I'm going to pass on this event.
Andrew
Directions from the site :
From Victorville; take Highway 18 to Camp Rock Rd., 4 miles make right on Granite Rd., follow signs to event site, about 2 miles.
9 am at rick's tomorrow morning :D
who's all in besides brian?
we might be in for sunday too ... we'll see.
NAILER341 09-19-03, 09:45 PM AS MUCH AS I WANT TO GO TO THIS, Im not going to make it...
 :( i have some things i have to do fro calico.
:yay: showed up (late, haha) and we headed out to Lucerne Valley for some lunch. We probably got to the event about noon and saw our Rubicon buddies! (Hey Dan!) We also ran into the famous Robert Yates from Jeep BBS and Mike too. It was a pretty neato event - there were two rollovers that :shades: and I missed while we were going to get :yay: a water from his Jeep!

the yellow cj5 was pretty sweet as well. (clay?)
NAILER341 09-21-03, 10:06 AM that looks like a good time  but, the truth is, i broke my darn drive shaft, and had to get it fixed. and it is time to take care of the "shim" problem, which i think contributed to the weakened shaft:rolleyes: .
sorry i missed it, i really wanted to go to this thing. oh well... there's always next year.
GREAT PICS! bacon :)
thanks bri! erik, you did WHAT?

i dont know if you remember, but i was having some trouble with my pinion angle. i had the 6* shims, which is what the sye suggested, and the last few runs, at flex, or under pressure of inclines, the drive shaft yoke was touching the rear end yoke. this weekened the ears on the driveshaft yoke. so, when i floored it to get across the intersection the driveshaft ear broke. i have it fixed now, and am up and running again. i'm just glad it didnt break the transfer case when it was slapping around down there :)
i just got finished with the shims today... i reduced them to the 4* shims. i think that will take care of the problem.
i also finally got the warn hub conversion in there with the heavy duty shafts :D .
