Front axle. First is of the only "problem" I could see and second is the back of the front axle.

Okay, so you guys will probably have NO problems telling me what kind of axle this is. I'm coming up empty on the websites I've found. I think the rear is a GM 14-bolt? And the front a Dana 44?
Also, um... are they worth getting? I have no idea what kind of shape they are in other than what you see... I'd have to do a lot of work to get them under the CJ... but I do need a wider axle and these are the perfect price.
Edit: Tomorrow I'm going to check out the transfer case to see what it's got. Hell as long as I'm salvaging, might as well get it all.

a front d 44, what could be wrong with getting that? I would go for it
about the 14 bolt, the only bad thing I see about them is look at how far down the diff case goes, those things eat up a lot of clearence, if you are not going go 35s or better that diff is just huge, solid, but huge
send pics of the T case, like you said, should get it all if ya can. you can always barter parts.

Haven't been back out there in a while... I'm going back out on the 2nd of Feb I think. I'll look under again. And try to get better picks of the the knuckles for better front axle ID.
Somewhere on the front differential there should be a number cast into the housing...44,60,60F etc. Those ball joints look just like the ones on the Dana 60 in my 1 ton Dodge and nothing like the ones on the Scout II Dana 44 I have...Those GM 14 bolts are tough axles too...So what was the transfer case?

I dunno what the transfer case is! I'll snap photos. I was in a hurry last time I was out there, and didn't get a chance to peek any closer to those axles than the pictures I shot. Where on the axle would I be looking for this number? On the pumpkin somewhere or on the shaft housings? I may head out there again this afternoon or tomorrow.
Go to your picture with your finger in it.See those cast in "gussets"?As I recall its going to be on the big gusset that is close to being in centerline with the axle tube.I think it's on the top but it might well be on the bottom.At this point in typing this I realized that I just cut up a '79 CJ7 and the axles were behind the garage still.O.K. actually as I was typing this I realized I needed a beer and while I was at that end of the house I went out and wire brushed the big gussets and in this case the "30"(Dana 30 axle) was on top of the big gusset to inside of the differential.So I guess thats a good place to start.Some of those mid '80's 14 bolt rear axles were also built so you could pull the brake drum off without pulling the axles which is a HUGE bonus in my opinion.I need to replace the emergency brake cables on the Dana 70 in my 1 ton Dodge and its a PIA pulling the axles and rear hubs which means new rear seals etc...

The front is a Dana 60. I can't remember where and don't feel like walking out to the garage to look but somewhere there is a "60F" cast into the pumpkin. Note there is only one U-bolt on the short side of the axle. There are two threaded holes in place of the "missing" ubolt. I'll bet the axles have 4.56 gears in them too, my D60F did. And like someone else pointed out it has kingpin joints at the knuckles in lieu of ball joints. The joints are easy to rebuild and a high steer setup is a bolt on. Get the axles they're good. Yes! Thanks guys, I did find the 60F imprinted on the cast 'gussets'. So this is a good thing. I was looking at the driveshaft for the 14 bolt rear-end and the damn thing is thicker than my calves! Not that I'm some big beefy dude or anything, but that thing is huge. I started to wonder if my little 258 is going to push these axles, even with EFI (this is an entirely different dream). The transfer case was much like one I was scoping out in 4wd.com's latest catalog... I'll have to get pictures for ya'll to help me confirm what it is.
Thanks again for the help and advice! I'll try to gain ownership of at least the front axle very soon I "sort of" have permission to get it. I live in a very grey world.
