Hey folks. I have a 53 M38A1 for sale. I just dont have the time or the finances to fix it up. It was said to run, but I havent had the time to try. I know it turns over, and will probably run with some time. I have a pretty new Bestop soft top and soft doors for it. The bad is that it doesnt have any of the data plates. The Jeep is located in Torrance, Ca, west of LA, at my parents place. I am in Temecula, Ca (100 miles away). If you would like to see it, we can schedule a time. I'm pretty flexable. I'm looking to get $600 for it, but I'm open to offers. Sorry for the poor pics, its all I have right now.

dame i want it, but it is on the other side of the country.....wounder how much it would cost to ship?????
I looked into shipping (Trucking co) a vehicle from CA to CT. I was quoted $750. That was in '91. It was a feeler so I didn't look for the lowest price. At the time I'm sure If I looked hard enough I could have found a cheaper price. Even with gas prices today, do your homework (alternative transportation). You may be able to get it there for a reasonable price to make it worth your while.
I forgot where I heard this, it may have been on this forum. Greyhound (yes the bus people) will ship items at a cheaper cost than UPS or other deleivery co's. The draw back is they won't ship door to door. you have to drop off and pick up. So a station would have to be close by, or at least willing to drive the distance. I'm told this is for the larger items that UPS charges an arm and a kidney for. This obviously won't work for a jeep, but if you look there are alternatives. When I moved my furniture to CT I used a trucking co called ABF or AFB, not a moving Co. Moving co's wanted 1800-2500 bucks to load and ship my stuff. AFB (?) brought a trailer to my house (would leave for three days to load). I was allowed 1/2 of the trailer. I loaded the trailer then they sent a carpenter to build a wall in the trailer. AFB then took it trailer to another place and someone else loaded the other half. When I got to CT AFB delivered it to my house. If I remember right they charged me around $750. Cheapest I could find anywhere. Of course I loaded and unloaded the trailer myself but I saved a ton of money.
Yes, I'm a cheap Bas*tard. I will always look for the deal. On the other hand if a price is appealing to me I will buy the item without trying to haggle it down. I try not to be insulting when someone is selling stuff, because you never know their situation. Way back when, when the economy sucked and I was circling the drain (financially not medically) I had to sell all my belongings to provide for my family. To make a long story short and not to subject you to my sob story, for to long, I will never forget the way I felt when someone tried to beat me down in price over a couple of bucks. There is nothing worst than getting kicked when your down (and your family watching) I didn't expect them to know that couple of bucks was the difference if my family ate or not. Anyway that was a long time ago and I obviously recovered cause I own a Jeep.
Maybe someone here knows of alternative ways to get big items across the counrty other than the standard methods (UPS of big trucking co's) that wont beark the bank.
Think outside the box. Here's one suggestion (Keeping in mind how comfortable you are in placing your stuff in someone else's hands).
College is almost done for the semester. Students looking to drive back home for the summer may be willing to tow the jeep to you for the price of gas money. There's more variables to consider and it may be a little to late to hook it up on this deal. I used to work at a college and I know that student alloway look for this kind of deal.

Its sold...so you can stop wondering:P
The guy that bought it originally wanted it for parts for his buildup, but when he got it home, he discovered that it was in better condition then what he was building, and decided to build this one up. With a little tinkering, he had it up and running, driving it around the block :D
