At last - I can now _officially_ tell you this :)

Please note the bold text - this is different from our past restrictions (and takes us into the guidelines the other National Forests have used for years)

Current Fire Use Restrictions and Guidelines:

Wood and Charcoal fires are ONLY permitted in designated fire rings
at developed sites. (developed sites are campgrounds, picnic areas
and yellow post sites).

Campfire Permits are issued for all fires (wood/charcoal/camp stove) in
Yellow Post Sites - Campgrounds and Picnic Areas do not require a Camp Fire
Permit.

Campfire Permits are issued for all campstove use outside of designated
sites.

Recreational Shooting is limited to designated sites, and locations
operated under special use permit only: except those engaged in legal
hunting.

An approved spark arrester is required for any internal combustion
engine operated off state or county highways or designated forest
roads. These include chainsaws, generators, motorcycles, and off-
highway vehicles.

A permit is required for welding or operating any torch device with
an open flame or for use of any explosive device.

Fireworks are always prohibited on the San Bernardino National
Forest. Tracer, armor piercing, steel core, and Teflon ammunitions
are also prohibited, as is discharging a firearm at any exploding
target.

Know Before you Go - contact the local Ranger Station prior to your
visit to determine local conditions and use guidelines

We were on patrol yesterday and the fire restrictions remain "High"
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/fire/firerestrictions.shtml

Jeff's post covers "High" restrictions. Hopefully we will not get to "Extreme" before our campout. "Extreme" normally only occurs after very dry summers in heavy Santa Ana wind conditions.

The one additional note to add to Jeff's original post is that for many years the SBNF allowed campfires in dispersed areas as long as the fire conditions were "Medium" or "Low". This will no longer be an option in the SBNF. Even if the conditions are "low" campfires will only be permitted in designated fire rings at developed sites. (developed sites are campgrounds, picnic areas and yellow post sites).

yellowpost sites are getting coveted because you can have a fire there...speaking of...
has anyone ever seen yellow post 34? I rode the dirt bike all over looking for it this weekend.

The restriction to yellow post/campgrounds only Jim? If so - it's a permanent regulation change.
