Has anyone out there ever installed a Tough Stuff Hi-Lift Jack Mount on the front hood? I put one on tonight. First, I was frustrated by the fact that the angle bar (the device the jack rests on) was machined differently than the angle bar in the instructions. The screws also didn't line up very well. I am going to have to slightly modify the design by purchasing my own, longer bolts at the longer hardware store to have the confidence in it that I want. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? (Hat tip to Paul for helping me put the thing on)

I dont have one, but Blaine (who is a partner in Tough Stuff Products)is a member on this forum, and will probably address your issues when he reads this post, probably tomorrow.

Jeep Gal, thanks for the heads up. I bought my part from Quadratec. They provided me the number for Tough Stuff since Tough Stuff doesn't have a phone number on its website. The guys are apparently all on vacation this week so I just went ahead and installed it. I'm looking forward to hearing what the company guy has to say. Don't get me wrong, I like it on my Jeep and think it looks cool. The instructions just appeared off to us and the bolts don't line up all that well. All in all, I do like it though.

I have no clue what's going on. I have a call into the warehouse to find out though. Any way you can get me some pics showing the issue? That would help in my discussion with my partner.

I do not want you to modify the install though. Our products are designed to fit, fit correctly and work exactly as intended. If you have to change something to make it work, then we need to know as this hasn't been a problem in the past and it's possible a program on the laser has been altered by accident and the parts are being made wrong but not so wrong that it's obvious when we pack them.

In any event, we do have an unconditional guarantee that the product will fit and work. Yours doesn't and we will need to get that taken care of as soon as is humanly possible and find out why.

I'm also a bit surprised that one of our warranty stations has given you a phone number. There's a reason they are a warranty center. They are supposed to handle any issues the customer has and then return the parts to us if needed. We don't have a specific customer service line and it's not exactly fair to the customer to not deal with their needs immediately. We'll address that as well.

hmmmm...I was just inquiring about this exact setup/product recently. It appears that maybe I should hold off for now to be sure that the 'kinks are worked out'...:dunno:

In speaking with my partner, I asked what the warranty rate is.

We have had issues with exactly .0005 percent of all hood racks sold. Of that percentage, we have solved every issue to the complete satisfaction of the customer whether it be a refund or a new part/parts/complete unit.

Not only that, but we have warrantied items for folks that we know were not the original purchaser. That's what is meant by an unconditional guarantee.

And I still don't have an answer as to where the best place to buy one is. I do know if it was like the other samples I have, if I had one, you'd own it already, but I don't.

btw- one of the issues was hole location on a foreign made hi-lift and we adjusted the holes to be slots to accomodate a brand we'd never seen before. That was on 1 hi-lift.

To give you an idea of how small the actual number is, if it turns out that the rack in this post gets returned, that will bring the attrition rate up to .0006. That's 6 ten thousandths of 1 percent with a reported issue.

Thus my earlier comment about me not knowing what's going on. We just don't see issues, but we will take care of any that arise.

Mr. Blaine....Thanks. Again, I really like the product. It's the perfect solution for my hi-lift problems because I have a stock bumper. I'm keeping it. The 3/8" x 3" bolts didn't line up that well on one side with the bolts that go directly into the hood. Also, the angle bar seems to be machined slightly different than the angle bar in the instructions. The one in the instructions shows two holes which accept the 3/8" by 3" bolt. The part I received has one elongated hole to accept the 3/8" bolts instead of two holes. Hey, but noone has ever accused me of being a "good" mechanic. For mechanical greenhorns like me, one thing I suggest is a parts list that identifies each bolt with a 1 to 1 image and the bolt markings. I think this is especially important because you identity two bolts of relatively equal size, one of which screws into the hood, the other of which will strip the threads of your hood if you make the wrong selection. Just a few thoughts. Thanks for the response everyone. :sarah:

Blaine,
I'm sure that this product is great, and I still plan on getting one at some point in the near future, with the light kit as well. I was just 'needling' you a little bit, and look at the results :D: Gave you yet another reason to show, seriously, what great statistics (positive feedback) you've (You meaning Tuff Stuff) had with customer satisfaction! :thumbs_up :thumbs_up .0006% AWESOME! :whip: :earth:
(I'll still leave the question that I PM'd you a while back out there ;))

If you reference my post above, those two holes were converted to a slot to accept the oddball hi-lift that someone may run into.

If you reference my post above, those two holes were converted to a slot to accept the oddball hi-lift that someone may run into.

I helped Bill (Willys2004) install the mount and that is what we figured the slots were for! I think the confusion was that the pictures showed the holes not the slots. The other thing that would have helped is if the bolts that go through the mount into the jack were bigger. There was quite a bit of slack--the bolt was much narrower than the slot. I think Bill is planning to get some larger bolts.

But we got it on and it looks sweeeeet.

P.S. Since I had to help Willys2004 install the thing (solely because the picture was different from the actual bar) I think the company should give me a free one...just for helping out.

I picked up some 1/2 x 3.5" screws, bolts, wingnuts and washers. It's going to be hot. Paul, I'm basically like a special ed kid when I'm holding a wrench so the company shouldn't give you much credit for the assist. Seriously, the thing looks cool. It's rugged lookin' on the hood. :sarah:

OK, I started this thread and have an important update. I just put on my Tough stuff hood mounted hi-lift a few weeks ago. I have a trail report. I LOVE IT. I just drove the Rubicon trail. With all of the jaw dropping rocks and obsticles, my Tough Stuff hi-lift stood the test. I did not rattle, it just hugged the hood of my Jeep as advertised. It is held on with wing nuts which makes it really easy to get off. I lent my hi-lift to a guy with a 2006 Rubuicon after he broke his D44 by oversteering with his lockers engaged. He had his hi-lifted mounted behind his tire and didn't want to go through the pain of taking the tire off of his swing out tire carrier to get at it. I was able to quickly unscrew my wing nuts and provide him mine to use. I am going to buy more products from this company. :sarah:
