I'm Mike, and I don't know ANYBODY!!! I kinda found this place by accident... I like smaller, more personable boards, so I registered... We'll see how personable you all are!! :D Anyway, I drive an old '73 CJ5, and I have a '71 CJ6 project that's pretty much nothing more than a frame and body at this point. Oh yeah, I live in Moorpark (Ventura County) Cal, and like to wheel EVERYWHERE! I don't care what it is, as long as I can lock the hubs and put it in low range.

Here's the 5 on the Rubicon a couple of years ago, making a tire run for a buddy:

sarah
06-21-03, 12:07 AM
well, mike, i think you've found the right board! how did you find us by accident? ;)

we're just getting going - only been up less than a month. i can personally guarantee you that all of the mods here are the fun-loving and outgoing bunch that just plain loves wheelin' together!

typically we're out at least every other weekend, out doin' something at least. tell me about the rubicon! there's a trip planned in the "events" section - check it out. join us anytime - i try and keep the front page updated with the upcoming runs, but we're still working on getting the site programmed (yes, there's more on the way) and sometimes other things get the priority.

hope to meet up with you - if you're wanting to wheel and there's nothing going on - just post something, and someone's sure to join. :shades: :yay:

p.s. do you like our little heads? i still have a few more to make, but if you send me or post your head, you can have one too!!

WELCOME BOYS!

Glad you found us YJChris and KickAssJeep...(I think I just shortened your names to YJC and KAJ...:P )

Keep up on the posts, and either of you are welcome to wheel with us ANYTIME. We had an INTERESTING trip yesterday. I cant think of the last time we had so much damage. Thanks for the entertainment Erik!

We started winding down yesterday, but I still wanted to play:(

I think that Brians planning a July 5 trip to Big Bear, and CJ called and told me about some trail maintainance at Wildomar OHV, 2nd weekend of July as well. As for big trips, Rubicon is the third weekend of July.

Nice meeting you all...

I dated a girl from ortonville, nasty thing...
I'm in beautiful MI, just north of Detroit, I've developed a technique that I call urban offroad, practice frist, but comes in handy while dodging bulets.
Building my orange POS 95 YJ. my second jeep, and my love.
my girlfriend, Katie (not from ortonville) is also a jeeper, she's shy but loves the jeep and isn't afraid to get dirty. I will hopefully have some nice mud jumpin pics for everyone soon, I'm about three hours from any good trails. so my pals and I kind of have to make it an event. most of my friends have jeeps, none yet have many mods, but I'm trying to talk them into it. but hey, any jeep is a good jeep,

I used to go to Bald Eagle Lake beach when I was a kid...that was where I saw my first floater if you know what I mean...a lot of little kids on that beach...lol. I think many many people from Michigan get out of there, but then, so do people from the desert, so who knows? The grass is always greener....

Ya, but places like the Rubicon it's too hard to tow the Jeep because there really no good place to leave the tow rig. So you have to Drive the CJ lol. I know leafs ride just as good as coils, if you get the right ones lol.

You can leave the tow rig and trailer at Robs place, about a mile or two before the damn at Loon lake. $5 bucks a day. I would not want to leave this down by the damn if I were stuck on the trail an extra day or so. My New tow rig. 6.0 powerstroke turbo deisel. 325 HP and a whopping 575 ft. lbs of torque, and 5 speed auto. Anyone need a house towed?

Hi all! We're here in bustling, metropolitan Hesperia, California (ha ha). We've got a mostly stock '98 TJ 4-banger. With a rear E-Z locker and 30"mud rovers, we can go almost anywhere that doesn't beat up the skid plates to badly. Unfortunately, I work nights and weekends, so it can be tough to schedule some wheeling, unless I do so far enough in advance. Also, a newbie question: Does anyone here bring their kids wheeling with them?

Happy Jeeping,

Ok, I call downtown Hollywood home. No joke. I am stuck right behind that horrid Hollywood/Highland Complex. Grauman's Chinese Theater is around the corner. No stars, just junkies. Although when there is a premier, I have to drive through the Hollywood Hills to get home. That can be dicey driving on 1 lane roads that are considered two way streets.

The potholes and broken road qualify the roads here as 4WD terrain. I nearly destroyed my 2002 VW New Beetle on those roads. That's why I bought a Jeep (well, that and the fact that my lifestyle changed suddenly).

I thought I had a 4WD buddy, but she wimped out when we went to Oceano. She spent her entire trip in my passenger seat and got nauseus from all the bouncing. Her truck, with its 31' tires, stayed parked. Otherwise, I know no one to drive with and spend a lot of time alone in my Jeep. (All of my friends own cars like Hondas and Toyotas) Even my brother (who used to own a CJ7) won't go wheeling. He says his 4WD Chevy Blazer is a yuppie car and won't take it out.

I learned to live with it. It was noisier 10 years ago with all the helicopters, but the crime has come down since the complex opened. I lived through 2 years of 24/7 construction while they were building the complex. The gunfire has ceased too. So I consider it pretty darned quiet now. :8

As I am finding out.

I view my Jeep as a horse replacement. I can't afford to keep a horse over in Burbank (tried - damned expensive). The Jeep is the closest thing I can get. It goes on trail rides like a horse. It just doesn't need a trailer to get there. When in it's "stable" (read parking space) it doesn't eat or leave droppings.

Hey, the Jeep may be better than a horse! Except it doesn't walk up and breathe down your neck and scare the bejeesus out of you to say "I love you, now feed me.". Or get you home when you're drunk.

Until I can keep a horse, I will have to keep a Jeep.

BTW my Jeep is named after a friend's late Tennesee Walker. There is an old saying about TN Walkers: "Ride one today; you'll own one tomorrow." That's what happened to me with my Jeep. I was sold before I got out of 1st gear.

Yeah, but when you put the horse in a stable and don't ride it for a few days it still needs fuel. At least with the Jeep you can leave it at home and bum rides to work.

You know how much hay is going for these days? Ouch! Makes a gallon of gas positively cheap.

King4wd & King4wd2 are in Hesperia, Ca about 10 mins away from Rick & Sarah. We've jeeped with a few of you guys. Rick, Sarah, Tams, Chris, Ron (rmagoo), Kirk, Terry, Joe, Erik, Jim (JC Fab guy), Brian, Crickett, and who else am I missing? Some of you were from PVD and Rick, Sarah, Tams, Chris & Ron were the first group we wheeled with up in Stoddard VAlley. I can go four wheeling also, but since I now have kids for my daycare only weekends are available. Sarah, I agree, nothing in the desert!

Newbie here... just got a brand new spankin '04 TJ.. I have been riding ATVs, dirt bikes, and a couple of big iron 4x4 trucks for a few years.

Just made a "break in" run through El Mirage this last weekend. Might try to run Stoddard Valley, Johnson, or Joshua Tree this weekend. If we get some snow, we might try Mt Baldy or Gorman.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California.

Was up in the highland lakes area late last summer. USFS is closing a lot of roads down. However their is some wheelen still to be done, old logging roads etc... I'm working on getting a key right now from a friend that may let me run the Barny Riley Trail.

So there still is some open logging roads? Or do you need the key? I couldnt imagine the trails being very tough since they are logging roads, or am i wrong because they arent taken care of?

You Easterners aren't alone. There are a few of us here. From Boston area, transplanted to the Wachusett Mountain area. Plenty of wet hills, mud, snow, rivers, fallen trees, rocks and more snow around here! All Terrainns just won't do... need MT's. Can't wait till spring when it all starts melting and becomes one big slippery mountain of goo!

I've seen IGOFISHIN on jeepforum... man I thought you were an easterner too!

Seems like a great board! There's a run this weekend in Warren Mass.. I'll try my damnest to be there... gotta get the wife and kids to cooperate!

Hi, I am Ed and I have a 77 CJ7. it has the 304 V8, three speed trans, stock front diff, the rear diff has been changed out to a 44 (ran a detroit locker in the rear diff for many years but finally got tired of it and swapped it out with a posi), Warn 6k winch, 33x12.50 BFG Mud tires, threw the original low back seats out years ago and installed a set of those hard plastic racing seats (try sitting on those things for a long trip in a rough riding Jeep!). no back seat, bare carpetless floor (planning on coating inside of body tub with that DIY bed liner paint). Been on the Rubicon once about 15 years ago and went anywhere the two other flat fenders I was with went. I have driven this Jeep all over the Sierras, mostly around highway 88 and highway 4. I have had this Jeep since the early 80's when I had to trailer it home because it did not run, put more than enough money into it to have bought a new Jeep. it mainly gets driven in the summer now and has not even been in 4 wheel drive for over 12 <gasp> years! it has just over 100k original miles. this Jeep was my daily driver for many years (my daily driver is now a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 double cab pickup)

I lived in CA for a little bit, I miss it terribly. CT is terrible. If you want to go offroad someone wants some money big time. The nearest legal place to go is Pennsylvania, Paragon park... What do you think of this CA guys...

PARAGON COSTS $35 PER PERSON, PER VEHICLE, PER DAY... WTF?!

As soon as I get out of the Navy I'm going to speed excessively back towards CA. Apparently here, off roading is a redneck sport, and new england is too sophisticated for that... (Obviously they're not including the inbreds working down at the shipyard)

Hello everyone. Good to be here!!!!! Can't wait to meet all of you that I can. I love my new Jeep.

A little backround. I just came out of a Nissan Xterra with a 3" lift, sliders and blah, blah. I have run most of the trails that I have seen you guys talk about. (John Bull, Last Chance, Doran, Odessa, Holcomb Creek.) I am the one who placed the Holcomb Creek Trail Cache for those of you that Geocache.

I was inspired to get a Jeep because I was out in Last Chance Canyon with my Xterra club and saw 2 Jeeps (one red one and a Chopped back Cheroke) run through that V-cut like it was nothing. Then the red jeep drove over something that I wouldn't have even thought of driving over with an IFS vehicle. I was hooked from then on.

Like I said, I hope to meet you all soon.

Welcome Jason. I bought my jeep from my girlfriend who had it parked away in the garage on bald tires, needed a smog and tags. I thought it be a cool vehicle for my mom who lives in the boonies down in Costa Rica. But as I started putting $$ into it getting it road worthy, driving it around, something started happening. I started hitting a few trails, "accessories" turned into mods, then I realized "NO way am I giving this thing to my mom!"

Hello to all MJR website members. My name is Rick and I've had 5 Jeeps. Jeep is all I drive. My friends say I bleed Jeep. Guess they'd be right since I sold the last pillow barge luxo-loaded power everything "SUV" id had. I live in 805 land where it takes me 5 min to be rid of pavement & "Off-Road". Currently my main trail rig is my 95 YJ. It's definitely no pillow barge & has very few stock parts remaining. Im always looking for a few good men & women who, if asked would blow off work to go wheelin' & camping.
Thanks to all who enquired regarding the parts I was selling on here. They have all gone to good Jeeper homes.

Hi, names Nate. I live in boring Central Indiana. Its boring cause I can't find any trails ,except pay places that I've heard become more dangerous than a blind driver on the freeway due to kids not paying attention and believing they always have the right of way. Besides, they don't have maps, can't check 'em out if I can't find the places. First Jeep was a 99 Sport, thought I needed a big bad truck, bought it built it....bought my 04 Rubi...traded big bad truck for a 2000 SE a few weeks after I got the rubi.....silly me, what was I thinkin? Shoulda never gotten rid of the Sport, everyone makes mistakes. Right?

Hi gang! I'm Ron. I technically don't have a Jeep yet but it's my next vehicle for sure! My wife has a 99 Grand Cherokee. I've always wanted a CJ6 or 7 since I was a kid! I'm looking around now for a CJ so it's partly why I joined here (and partly to connect to some fellow Jeep lovers. :D ) Anyway, we live in North Central Ohio and I'm looking forward to chatting with ya!

I've got some questions about my CJ search so maybe some of you can help a brutha out? :yay:

I'm going to use my CJ as a daily driver....should I consider anything when looking?

What are my chances of getting ripped off if I buy on eBay? Is there a better way to find and buy good reasonable CJs? Trade mags? The internet? Or just plain luck??

Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

It is a great place. This is the third time I have been stationed here. (14 years in the Corps, 10 at MCCES)
Some highlights:
No traffic. (Except leaving town Friday night)
Low crime rate. (Except for the meth labs)
Affordable housing. (Sand is cheap)
Star filled skys.
We still have a working drive-in. (Smith Ranch)
But the best part is; lots of rock and sand to drive on.

The weather is not too bad.
It is only supposed to be 104 today. (But it is a dry heat)

Maybe I should plan a reunion run out here. Sometime this winter, we could run some trails in the Old Dale Mine area.

It is a great place. This is the third time I have been stationed here. (14 years in the Corps, 10 at MCCES)
Some highlights:
No traffic. (Except leaving town Friday night)
Low crime rate. (Except for the meth labs)
Affordable housing. (Sand is cheap)
Star filled skys.
We still have a working drive-in. (Smith Ranch)
But the best part is; lots of rock and sand to drive on.

Can't say I blame you for leaving. I am not a fan of NW Indiana. Right now I am full time with the Army stationed in Ft Wayne providing homeland security. Been here for almost 2 years commuting home on wekends. It was here or Iraq and eventually Afganistan. Wife and kids want me home on weekends so it was a no brainer for me.

The only thing I am missing out on here is getting shot at and getting to wear a combat patch. :gun:

Hey MJR-ers (?). I just found this site a while back from MichiganJeepers.com and it's a lot better for me as I'm based here in the desert and ya'll seem to be from around here mostly.

Currently own a '74 CJ5 that I bought from a "desert person" (no disrespect intended there) and planning a frame up restoration. However, redeploying to Iraq right quick here and will probably transfer elsewhere when I get back. That being said, my "use" of the site is mostly a. ask stupid questions, b. learn driving and trail tips from the pros and c. drool over the extreme machines you've all built and I can never afford.

I dont have any REALLY good pictures of the ole Jeep, it's certainly not "rockin" yet. But what I do have you can see: http://public.fotki.com/Clarkna/clarksinca/jeep_project/

Be gentle, the wife and I have always wanted a Jeep and now we finally have it. I paid way too much for it, and now I have a ton of work to do. With all of your help, maybe I wont make too many mistakes and have to repay to fix them.

Greetings to all jeepers! Although I am new to the game of being a jeep owner, I found my Jeep on the side of the road for sale. My 94 YJ has the 4.0 liter engine, hard top and two soft tops. It came with a new tune up, tires and brakes. Everything works and all I have had to do to it is change the catalytic converter. I thought I got a good deal as I bought it for $4800.00 as it just turned 100,000 miles. Still runs like a gem. I just purchased a Pro-Comp 4" suspension lift with 33x12.50x15 BFGoodrich AT's mounted on 15x8 Rock Crawler Series 152 with the simulated beadlock. I'm pretty anxious to install all of the new stuff. As soon as the snow melts here in CT., the YJ is going to have an extreme makeover. I can't wait to go out on the beach.

no offence to your pro comp purchace, but you may want to reconcider the 4" lift springs.
they will make your kidneys bleed.

You're the second person to warn me of the pro-comp suspension. I ordered the ES-9000 shocks with the lift. Will those shocks make a difference in the ride? Also, is pro-comp a good suspension lift? I need to know how to put pics on this site. I'm no computer wiz.

TDS (http://www.myjeeprocks.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=185&day=2005-3-5&c=1) is at Truckhaven :D Make sure you stop by and say HI!
It's also right near Anza Borrego ... some of the guys from this board were just there (http://www.myjeeprocks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3658).

Just wanted to stop by and say HI to all

This is a great site, I've been looking for one like this for awhile. I'm from Northern Ca. and have a `98 Wrangler Sahara, raised 6", warn long arm lift, wow, let's just say there is to much to list; with labor and parts over $45K and still going.

I also wanted to say 'good luck' to jeepster boy 101, once you start you won't stop it's very addictive like tatoo's haha ;)

Anyway, hope to talk to you all alot, thanks

Wow jeepgals I just looked at your gallery, cool!!
where is the trail?
my jeep looks like mikeys the black one, but has the suspension of dukes, the green one with lights and a wench on the front.
now I know what my jeep will look like when it 'flexes' its muscles :haha:
I cant wait...
I'm directly between the Rubicon and Hollister, been to both with an older jeep, this is my third one, like I said it's addictive...
anyway, I just wanted to say you have a great jeep and great pictures...

I also loved your photo gallery sarah. I'd like to post my pics of stuff, so you guys can see my baby...but I can't figure out how, I guess the bleach went to far this month.

Where did you get that awesome sticker? The 'official abuse' one? I'd love to get it... where is Apple Valley, northern or southern Ca? Sounds beautiful.

I have a `98 exactly the same model as yours sarah but black, and it has 36" x-terrias on it. haven’t had this model off road yet, can't wait for this summer. I've gone wheeling in my 93 before at midnight on new years eve in the snow up at 'uncle tom’s cabin,’ (before it got commercialized and paved roads).

I have a tech question on my Jeep. I’m hoping someone has heard of this problem before?? My Jeep has a steady tic-tic-tic sound under it. I can't tell where it is coming from because the sound is traveling. I thought it was a 'U' joint, that's what it sounded like but they have been replaced along with the rear drive-line.

I bought it three years ago from a dealership with 38K miles on it, then had it lifted by 4 wheel parts in Oakland, Ca. It now only has a little over 40K on it, (my 3rd car) I just started driving it every day then all this happened, so now before summer I'd like to figure this out.

My mechanic found metal in the tranny it was missing a reverse tooth, and all the sincrows were out, it also had green gunk all over the gears and was put back together with silicone. Also the rear dif had metal in it, found out the spider gears were very pitted.

I went to the dealerships mechanic, he is saying it might be the exhaust manifold, (inherent with jeeps, just like the Chrysler caravans tranny). I was also thinking it might be the cadillac converter, but I don’t know the stupid sound is traveling to much…I've had the engine completely gone through, the transfer case looked at, the tranny was completely changed out to a new one, the rear spiders completely replaced with new ones and the noise is still there, grant it not as bad but... :censor:

I just want to be on solid ground to see what the spring lift can do and get the feel of it; I've never had this kind of lift or this high of one before. I've been wheeling sense `95 but always on a stock, or a 3" normal leaf spring type Jeep. The problems are another reason I want to baby my baby, it will be the first time I'm go out with this Jeep, (oh, virgin Jeep, look out...) and don't want to get stranded for nothing, I'd like to earn it, not just have it brake on me, if you know what I mean?!? haha

I'm thinking Hollister because of the good conditions, and it's not too far to tow if I have to.

Any suggestions would help
thanks guys :)

Hi guys, Bernie here, from New Zealand. we (wife and I) have a 87 YJ and a 95 Cherokee. dont think here is anything on the YJ that has not been touched, beefed up, repaired, modified, we love it. have not meet a bet bunch of people since starting out on this 4 wheel driving stuff. mostly bush tracks down here, just finished our first winch challenge full on 3 1/2 days with 2 night stages "oresome"

Hi Bernie and Wife, Welcome :) How's the weather down there?? It’s rainy in San Francisco, California, but it was hot and sunny all last week, in the 80's, 20 degrees above normal in some spots, hit records a couple of days.

Hay, my first Mom-in-law had an exchange student from New Zealand back in the 80’s, I met her a few summers ago, she was great. Glad to see some new country’s in the loop.

Your `87 sounds great, any pics? and what about the `95, any mods on it?? I have had 4 jeeps over the years a `89 YJ, `93 YJ my husband and I have a `98 TJ and before it got totaled a `97 Cherokee. It was in front of our house last Christmas eve and with us not even home our drink neighbor hit it 2 times, one from behind and then they backed into it in front.

We now have an `82 Chevy K-5 Blazer with a 6” lift, same height as the `98 TJ.

Hope to hear from you guys soon, again welcome.

I thought I needed to join in as I'm tired of the stuck up attitudes of some of the other sites around (mentioning no names ) , Looks like a lot of great Jeeps and great people are members. If you're wondering about the Orange curtain thing, I'm a Brit trapped behind the Orange Curtain in Mission Viejo, OC Ca. Looking forward to causing mayhem
