View Full Version : CD Players
i cant seem to find a cd player suitable for the jeep. i love my music almost as much as i do wheeling, and im getting tired of not being able to have both at the same time. im just wondering if anyone out there has a good cd/mp3 stereo fit for the trails??
swbooking 01-10-07, 10:00 PM My Kenwood KDC-M525 works perfect.
cd player? after scratching just about every cd i took on the trail, i got an ipod :D
JeepGal 01-10-07, 10:33 PM I agree with the IPOD comment...Sarah and I both have XM Radio, the cool thing about this is that you can plug your IPOD right into the jack. :)
Did you know that Sarah?
Tam :)
swbooking 01-10-07, 10:41 PM Yeah i use the AUX input for my Ipod on mine. Best thing ever.
maddmike 01-10-07, 11:53 PM i had a champion old pioneer single disk player that i used to use in my old s-10 blazer. that thing almost never skipped a beat over large highway bumps, speed bumps, or off-road ditches and tree ruts. only time it was guaranteed to skip is if i got a minimum of 2 wheels off the ground.
i proceeded to transfer it to the remaining 3 vehicles i owned over the course of 10 years before my jeep and never had a problem with it. best $150 i ever spent.
or you can get an ipod.
Materdaddy 01-11-07, 07:29 AM I still have the stock head unit and I plug my mp3 player in for music. I installed a WIRED FM modulator. The wireless doohickies don't do too well. I love it. I have a switch and everything. I plan on throwing some pictures on my website when I get around to it. If you have any questions, let me know!
I Have Had Great Luck With Pioneer Head Units. I Would Say Get Sattelite Radio, I Havent Used My Pioneer Cd Player Since I Installed My Sirius 2 Mos Ago.
rockrat33 01-11-07, 10:38 PM ipod its 60 gigs of music at your finger tips. Think of the new pioneer dvd screen for rock cams and ipod compatible.
TrAvELAr 01-12-07, 06:13 AM I have to agree..... XM+iPod is about all you'll ever need. :)
Bachman 01-12-07, 09:06 AM Go with satelite radio, XM or Sirius. It makes your Jeep Rock!:thumbs_up
USMC 0369 01-12-07, 11:19 AM I bought a stereo for the YJ that takes a USB thumb-drive. No skipping and no monthly fees. Um... lemme see...

Got it at Best Buy last year. $150 I think?
miguelitojeep97 01-14-07, 08:03 PM i have had horrible results with my pioneer. I thought they were good also but i will try and not buy one again. Its going to go back to the factory on warranty for the 2nd time. I just want my money back or a new player. scratches all my cds
I have been lucky so far with my 99 buck sony from wal mart. I have my top down and doors off most of the summer so I didnt want to put a high dollar unit in. As far as cds I always burn some copies and keep them in the Jeep. If someone steals them or I scratch them just burn some more.
goodtimes 02-01-07, 08:38 AM I can't get a CD player to last more than a year in the jeep...the dust kills them.I use sirius now...just move it between the bike and jeep as needed.

Which XM do you have? Can't seem to find that jack on my SkyFi II
i think im going to go with sirius, but im worried about someone stealing all of the components one day while im in the mall or something.

I was concerned about that too. I ended up with one of the portables, with docking kits in both the jeep and moto. I just pull the reciever and take it with me. All that is left in the jeep (or on the bike) is the docking kit (black base pictured below). It wasn't cheap, but it was cheaper than buying 2 receivers and paying for 2 subscriptions.

freewaydan 02-02-07, 02:06 PM I have 2 xm's skyfi 2, my Jeep, and truck share the same reciever, and the extra is on my home reciever. I bought an extra car kit, swap the skyfi, now its xm all over the place
chlorine23 02-14-07, 09:27 AM Because I'm cheap, I have a regular MP3 player (technically it's an audio jukebox) that I just plug into the adapter thing (used to be a cigarette lighter?). Works great. I can plug either my MP3 player into it, or a portable cd player. I'm getting to where I'm done with cd's though, like everyone else said.
crazy_wolf168 02-14-07, 11:35 PM XM radio is the way I go I have not lost it once yet and alot of music to choose from.
those of you that have satellite radio in your jeeps do you still need a head unit. Or is there a satellite that doesneed a cd player or some other head unit to go through. I have xm in my truck but it has to play through the stock radio/head unit.
ryandavison 04-01-07, 02:04 PM after ruining plenty of cds, and having 3 nice cd players stolen, i finally went to schucks auto supply here and bought a cheap deck that plays off of SD cards, has a USB port, a jack to plug an MP3 player (it fits my phone too) as well as normal cds n stuff, for like 90 bucks. in the works is my custom jeep-puter.
Roadkill424 04-03-07, 10:40 PM i can never get a head unit to last me. i killed 2 units and tore up a few cds in the last 2 months. so now i just listen to my motor and the wind.
yeah i blow the fuse in my deck while installing my cb. dont ask why i havent replaced it yet, but the wind is getting really annoying. plus i pulled off my muffler. hahaha. its so kick ... now!! no tunes, no muffler, sometimes its missing the doors, and its 7 ft tall. does this make me a redneck??
The-Hurricane 04-05-07, 08:35 PM hahahahahah no that doesnt make you a redneck, that make you heroic!!!! im getting exhaust done right away on my jeep, hopefully it sounds good "fingers crossed" (we need a fingers crossed smilie)
