These places are in my own backyard, and Ive never been there.

Suggestions?

Although I can't go because Los Coyotes is too much for my little Jeep. :(:( :( The weekend of the 28th might not be good. Thanksgiving and some are away or have visitors.

Sounds better. Gives me time to work on the rig.

Camping out might be a bit frosty...but hey...my sleeping bag goes down to 0 degrees. I am trying to figure out a way to make a polartec sleeping bag liner. It wouldn't be hard and I could probably find some polartec in the garment district cheap. (wish the transit strike would end...I hate driving downtown)

I dont think your Jeep will have much of a problem. There are bypasses through most of the stuff, if I remember correctly.

I think December 5, 6 and 7 would be a better time. Although I dont know what they do about Snow and stuff . . . i.e closures.

:yay: :D

Thank you for reminding me about snow. I am going to be taking off a lot to go skiing. I generally like to ski from December through February or March (late spring is too hard on the skis around here). If there is snow on the ground I will have to make a choice between Jeep and ski.

There are bypasses for just about everything there. A stock Jeep could have plenty of fun in Los Coyotes.

BTW, my name is Josh, you can count me in if you go the 5,6,7th of December. It would be interesting in the snow!

I was told that it would not be a good idea to take mine there yet. Not only is there an issue of the stock Jeep, but the driver inexperience. Just too many places for me to get into trouble.

A Jeep lacking certain items can make it through if the driver has skill and good spotters. Ask Chris about getting through the Notch without being locked. :D

Snow? I am pretty good in the snow. Spent 2 years in Fairbanks and drove the Alaskan/Canadian Highway in January in a Toyota Celica. Got all my snow training in one 2 week stretch.

If you stay on the bypasses, it is just like any dirt road. When I was there a couple of months ago, the main roads were all very smooth. All obstacles that I saw - Jeep squeeze, Left turn hill, etc. had a bypass.

Trust me, it would still be fun in a stock Jeep. Very scenic too, so long as it does not burn up in the next few days.

I bow to your snow experience. :)

Hi Everyone!

Just found this place today, and about laughed when i saw this thread.

I will be up there with 5-6 of my Jeeping buddies that Saturday we've had the trip planned for a few weeks now.

Hope to see/meet you guys there.

We are bringing a GPS and re-mapping LCIR the map they give you at the gate is horrid to say the least and alot of the trails have changed/expanded since it was made. We plan on making a new map once we are done. I think we are even going to bring some stakes and boards and label the trails.

We plan on hitting:

El Hill
Ladybug Lane
Helicopter Pad
Jeep Squeeze
Bronco Hill
Left Turn Hill
Rock Garden
etc....

We will have at least 3 vehicles equiped with winches, an OBA, a welder....etc. We will also have about 2 or 3 stock Jeeps with us that are 1st timers. We are usually on channel 16 a few guys run motorola's as well usually channel 4(sub 4).

For those that haven't been there before everything mentioned in this thread is correct. I use to run LCIR in my Jeep when it was 100% stock and i had no problems at all. Sure there are areas where you need lockers, or need decent clearance, but there are bypass's for all those areas as well.

EDIT: Some LCIR (http://www.dustyland.net/scbloscoyotes-nov03/index.html) pics to view here too. One of the guys i wheel with has a 66 bronco and his club was up there a few weeks ago and we met up with them and showed them how it's done in Jeeps!

Well i just got back from Las Vegas today and i was able to talk to one of the guys in my group going on the 6th.

We currently have 7 going for sure, we might have a 8th as well. Apparently they went to LCIR Saturday and one of the guys wasted an axle shaft. I'm not sure if his Jeep will be back up for the 6th or not i'm heading to his house tomorrow to check out the damage.

We usually meet at the gas station in Warner Springs to stock up on some food, fill the tanks and head to the front gate as a group.

I will get more firm details this week and post here, we usually meet pretty early in the morning and hit the gate right when it opens.

I am coming straight up from Poway, Warner Springs is a bit over an hour away from here.

I will try to meet everyone at the gas station. The gate opens up around 8am, should we try to all meet up around 7:30 at the gas station (it is a few miles to the gate)?

Late arrivals could always be met up with later at the so-called "main camp area". It is really easy to find.

I was thinkin' maybe everyone whod like to, could meet for Breakfast at Siggys in Temecula on 79 South, about 5 min from the 15 fwy. From there its about 40 min away. Maybe around 730am or so?

Any takers?

(directions to Siggys: Take 15 Freeway, exit onto 79 South in Temecula(not 79 North), head east towards Indio. About 3 miles down on your left. Turn left onto Margarita, and an immediate right into the Albertsons Parking lot. Siggys is in the south east corner:))

Well my group is going to be meeting at the gas station in Warner Springs at 7:30 AM, we will be leaving the main camp site around 8:30 AM to start wheeling.

I am heading up to my buddies house in Murrieta on Friday so we can do some last minute work on my rig as well as give the 3 Jeeps a good once-over. I'm going to just stay at their house and leave with them early on Saturday morning to make the most of the day.

We will be starting off on LadyBug Lane and Bronco Hill and work our way towards Pirates of the Caribbean, Tobaggan Hill, Bobsled Run and then Bagby's Rock. We plan to take Manzanita Loop over to El Hill.

Also, somewhere along Rock Canyon Road you come VERY close to the Old Mine that is accessed from Appian Way, where you turn off WAY back by the corrals to get to. We've never been back there so it might be a recon mission of sorts.

Basically there are a ton of trails in the area we are heading, alot of them we haven't explored yet.

We normally end doing Dangerous Road, Jeep Squeeze and Left Turn Hill, though time is always a factor so that might not happen.

Hope to run into all of you during the day. Do you all have a plan as far as where you are starting and what areas you plan to wheel?

Our group should be rather easy to spot, there will be 2-3 Bronco's, a green TJ Sahara, a green YJ Sahara, a Blue YJ Renegade and a brown CJ to name a few of the easier to spot ones.

It looks like there is a group meeting in Temecula at 7:30, if they leave at 8am they should be at LCIR around 9-9:30.

I would like to get there early as well, does anyone want to set a time to meet up at the main camp area? If there are going to be several groups of people coming up at different times it is probably the best spot to meet up.

As far as runs go, I have only seen all of the main (fire) roads, Ladybug lane, Dangerous road, Jeep squeeze and Left Turn Hill. I know there are bypasses for just about everything in the park, so I am up for anything.

Can't wait!

Well unfortunately i didn't run into any of you with the group i was with. We didn't see any other people actually which rather suprised me, we normally run into others along the way.

We started off alittle after 9am, we all met at the main campsite aired down, unpinned...etc and headed out.

We began our morning doing Appian Way and Old Mine Road and then moved to Which Way Hill, Ball Bearing Hill, 3 Sisters Peaks, Bobsled Run and Tobogan Run. Around 2pm we moved to 4 Corners and did Lady Bug Lane and finished our day doing Dangerous Road.

We rolled out of LCIR alittle after 5pm. We stopped back at the main camp site because one of the guys in our group had towed his Willys up with his Land Rover. The main campsite was empty i believe there was a Cherokee parked nearby, but it was unattended.

This was one of the best trips at LCIR i've been on. I suffered the only damage and it was very minor. I dented one of my sidestep flares when i rubbed a tree in a tight spot. It caused a small rip in the plastic, but the flare was easily pulled out (no damage to the body at all). I'm getting rid of those sidesteps anyhow for some rockguards so now i have justification to make the purchase!

We did run into a parked Bronco on one of the trails that we later learned had broke when it's fan broke and threw itself into its radiator. The Bronco was one of the guys from Socal Bronco's that was up there with a few other Bronco's. One of my buddies with a 66' Bronco is in that club and ended up wheeling with them instead of our group. He passed the info on the brokedown Bronco to us over the cb.

Our group ended up consisting of 8 vehicles. (4 TJ's, 3 YJ's and a Willys). We only had to do some minor tow strapping we never even had to break out the winches which was a suprise. It must have rained recently up there traction was excellent.

All in all we had a great trip i just wish we had ran into some of you along the way. :(

i bet you saw us on the way out (past the check-in booth)- we were the nice size group on the side of the road airing up, etc. i distinctly remember seeing the Willys being towed by the Rover :D

IIRC, our mishap was on Dangerous Road  but i'm not positive. Crickett got away with a slightly tweaked windshield frame, cracked windshield glass, and a bent support for the soft-top. It's not broken, just broken-in :D

Ya know...all you can do is grin. :D

No one is quite certain how or what happened (ramped a tree or fell in a hole...or both...who knows...or cares at this point). All I can say is the first mistake was me not taking the bypass. I got too cocky and paid for it.

Cetrov, this ain't my first. I have been upside down as a passenger. You just grab the inside of the seat, duck your head and enjoy the ride. Then you shut off the Jeep, wait for your buddies to stablize you and help you out. If you are upside down, never try to get out alone...you will fall on your head. You know, this roll happened so slowly. It didn't crash until the last few inches. Or at least it felt like it. The Jeep just laid down like a tired dog. ("Here's a good spot in the trail to take a nap.")

I thought it was funny riding with Chris today. He decided to ramp a tree too...but he meant to do that and he got nice pictures out of it. Then we were driving back and a tree reached out and touched his Jeep...guess where...yep, windshield frame...some minor dentage. Just a tree love kiss.

You know, we all roll it sometime. I just thought I would get mine over now. Before the Christmas rush. :P

brings a whole new meaning to ROCK AND ROLL :P

Long long long day...I had to catch up with the guys today, they left before me...I used my tire deflators on the trail, and aired down while driving...when we got to the lookout(about 8-10 miles in), we got out and looked down to find ALL FOUR TIRES FLAT. Sigh...thank GOD they were mtr's. David and I were completely alone, and slowly limped back to main camp, driving on my rims, where we waited patiently for someone (anyone) to return from their outings. All I could think of was cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching...how in the world am I gonna afford new tires? Finally, about 45 min later, some horses and riders came back, and miraculously had a little tire inflator (the kind you plug into your lighter) and filled the tires to 10 lbs...and continued our search for Chris and Mikey..didnt find them for 3 1/2 hours, just as it was getting dark, cold and wet.

Theres no place like home, theres no place like home, theres no place like home.

Sigh...

lesson learned...NEVER air down alone.

Tam :)

I am a firm believer in belt & suspenders. Despite the CO2 tank (http://myjeeprocks.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=895), I also tote around a TruckAir plugin compressor. The lil yellow ones are no bigger than a brick and cost $9 at Fry's.

Thanks Brian, I am not touching my insurance. It's too high already. $1600 a year. And the Jeep is cheaper than the VW. Go figure

I am going to have to get into a bank account I really don't want to touch. This is going to be the most painful part. I can't laugh here. :(

I have people across the country searching for parts for me. My buddy in Oklahoma is getting in touch with his brother in Long Beach.

My brother still doesn't know about it. His wife hasn't checked her email yet. I am going to catch all holy hell for this.

And you are right about the not if but when. You almost did a spectacular endo that would have had you hanging in your seatbelt. The gods decided not that day for you.

They decided Saturday was my turn because I got too cocky.

Thanks gang... I am afraid D/C changed the Jeep for 03. The parts to older Jeeps don't match up. A friend in New York bashed the top of her windshield on a tree and had to get a new one because they couldn't find a wrecked 03. I got that happy news earlier today.

Oh, notice that the damage on Chris' windshield frame is on the passenger side. I was sitting on the passenger side at the time it happened. I guess I haven't hugged a tree recently and they are getting a little resentful.

This is not totally true. Your windshield and top should be the same. If you look in the catalogs the tops are for 97-03. That means the top and windshild will be the same.

There are differences. Not all the tops fit the 03. Just had someone on another list complain that. A couple of other 03 owners have warned me as well. (Seems I am not the only one not afraid to break a new Jeep.)

Unfortunately, we didn't get the actual crash (darn). :(

After looking at everything here's what went wrong (after my stupid idea of NOT taking the bypass):

Slipped off something (rock?); climbed tree; fell in hole; fell over.

Had I made a smart move once in the trail of stopping before the slip and stuck my head out the window and screamed for someone to spot me (Mikey was there but it was too late by then. He tried :(), I might have made it.

Many dumb moves; lots of repairs to make; lessons learned. :8
