Materdaddy 05-22-07, 12:34 PM Is this the right forum?
Anyways... My Uncle got an aftermarket radio for his 06 TJ. Will his stock radio work in my 97 TJ, or will a dealer need to 'unlock' it?
Kodiak Spirit 05-22-07, 12:51 PM '06 TJ? WTF? where did he get an '06? :)
Kodiak Spirit 05-22-07, 12:53 PM duh! I'm a moron... thinking '96 of course.... I dunno about the unlocking thing, I'm just getting stupid on my lunchbreak. sorry.

Hehe, I thought you were thinking they weren't made in 06, but 06 was the last year of the TJ... :D No harm, no foul! My lunchbreak = drive to Fry's! YAY ME!
Dukes69 05-22-07, 01:47 PM I dont think it will physically fit. IIRC the newer radios are much larger then the older ones.

It looks the same size... the 1 1/2 DIN or double DIN whatever the heck Chrysler uses...?
Dukes69 05-22-07, 04:09 PM well then cram it in there. :D
steelman 05-22-07, 05:42 PM I thought the newer ones were not quite as 'square' as the older ones. :dunno:

Darn... I thought it would be just the bezel over the top, but after you posted this, sure enough... I open the box (he gave it to me in the aftermarket radio's box) and sure enough, this thing is all 'round' like. Thanks Bob!
Kodiak Spirit 05-22-07, 10:46 PM frikin' TJ's, even the radios are round....

Haha! Maybe I'll find a way to make this one work... New bezel? ;)
Dukes69 05-22-07, 11:55 PM Hammer to fit? :D

place new radio on top of dashboard and use rathcet strap to secure?

mmmm... switches and gadgets.... :D
It's a jeep you can make anything fit with a grinder, sawzall, and a torches. No really, I a had to cut the dash out to fit any radio in my cj. It was easy.
Mat, from what I understand you will need a newer center section for the dash and I believe there is a wiring harness adaptor needed as well.
Checked at Discount on the tires for you but apparently my contact is not there anymore- sorry I can't help you there...

Darn... not worth it. I'll stick w/ my wired FM modulator (http://jeep.matandtiff.com/projects/modulator/) and mp3 player for now. Thanks for the info Chad!

Thanks for trying anyways! I'm buying some used (and damn near bald) tires just to get the lift on and hold me over for a month or two. I will still be actively looking for tires. I think I want some siped MT/Rs, but those are $$$.

Matt,
I have a friend that has an 'aftermarket' car/suv business. Mostly higher end stuff (for Landrovers, etc.) but it finally dawned on me as I was driving by his house last night...I pulled over and asked him if he had a contact for 33X12.50R15 MT/R's. He said that he definitely did, and he said he would make some calls. I'm supposed to get a quote from him in the next day or so. I'll let you know what I find out. :thumbs_up
