View Full Version : back halfing the roof
xjkevin 08-24-07, 09:37 PM well i went ahead and cut the back section of the roof off, got a bunch of tube for the cage, and away i go again. i also got some fox 14'' air shocks so i can link the rear, but first is the cage. heres a few pics of it now. IM TRYING TO RESIZE THEM?
Kodiak Spirit 08-24-07, 09:38 PM wow, what is that gonna do to your groceries capacity thingy?

Dukes69 08-25-07, 01:00 PM Cool deal Kevin! Are you going to make it a mini bed?
btw: MJR will resize the pics for you. Just wrap them in "<sized> pic link </sized>," but use "[ ]" instead of "< >"
xjkevin 08-25-07, 01:20 PM thanks on the resize, yep sorta mini bed dont know how much room there will be after the cage, mainly did it for the air, open it up a bit. im always with tjs and i get jealous cuz their all open and in the wind, and im in a little sweat box all day, i also made the doors removable... now i just need to learn to bend tube..??
swbooking 08-25-07, 05:50 PM NICE MAN!!! I would have you come over to bend the tube, but our bender is gone for now :( if you need any help let me know, i dont do anything after about 12 anyways... :D
Looks good Kev!
Keep the pic's coming.
Ride'on,
~CRASH!~
HeloMech 08-29-07, 02:23 PM Looks kinda like the H2.. sorta, well, a little bit. I like it.
Crash... let's do that to yours. I'll bring the angle grinder and a spare welder! Maybe... MAYBE I'll even bring the snow thrower. I wanna see what it does with dirt and rocks!
xjkevin 08-29-07, 03:37 PM starting the cage tonight, should have more pics soon, also moving the rear axle back and moving the gas tank up into the jeep..http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f18/jeepnzj/103_0099.jpgoh and photobucket sucks, or do i just suck at using it? it worked yesterday?
Kodiak Spirit 08-29-07, 03:40 PM sounds sweet! I need a cage, are you doing it all frum scratch?
xjkevin 08-29-07, 04:28 PM yes all from a pile of tube, i was going to do it myself, but with the price of tube and my pickyness, i decided to bug one of my buddies, hes done tons of cages and bumpers, and should save me money on steel, his cages come out sweeeeet, and i get to learn from working with him instead of trial and error, ive got no time for that, im trying to get done for fun in the desert..Kevin
Kodiak Spirit 08-29-07, 08:17 PM sweet! now that I'm home I can see the pic, that XJ looks badass!
rockrat33 08-30-07, 09:50 PM Hey I got that bid on your tube call me in the am. I think that I have what you need in stock at the shop right now. You might want to come by and check.
Ky Laredo 10-30-07, 12:22 AM Hey XJKevin. I did pretty much the same thing to mine earler this year. If you want some thoughts on the back area, go back to Photobucket, and look under IJIR. Oh, and hint, hint, you "might" want to make some panels to close off the areas above/behind the wheelwells- they collect all kinds of junk, and quickly. ( Ask me how I know...)
xjkevin 10-30-07, 09:36 AM your album is private, thanks though,

Used an X-polder hatch as it was free, and the window opens (favorite mod of all, so far...)

How I "tucked" the rear "hoop" from the hatch under the roof to help support everything.

Ky Laredo 10-30-07, 12:03 PM Okay, just took some new pix.

i cant tell from the pictures on how you made the door removable? do you just have them on a hinge set up like the little guys? id really like to do something like that on my brothers XJ. he might not like the idea but if you never ask then you can never be told no.

Its Very easy to make the 84-96 door removable. Head over to NAXJA and search, there are write-ups on how its done or you could always come over to our place and we'd be glad to help you out.
xjkevin 11-17-08, 01:13 PM that would be a long drive...
heres a write up on it.
