View Full Version : What do you have in your garage/shop?
Dukes69 11-25-03, 02:17 PM With a welder on the way, I got to thinking . . . what does everyone else have in their garage/workshops. I got a list of what I would like to have:
Welder (of course)
Drill press
Bench Grinder
Belt sander
Chop Saw
Sheetmetal brake
Oxy/Act
Air Compressor
And if I want to think REALLY BIG:
Vertical Mill
Lathe
:D
What do you have?
cbremer 11-25-03, 05:04 PM welder, bench grinder, angle grinder, lots of hand tools... maybe an air compressor for x-mas :D (i use my OBA to run the impact as it is) been also looking into a chop saw.. the angle grinder with a cutting wheel is a PITA :)
igofshn 11-25-03, 05:58 PM Welder, angle grinder, chop saw, air compressor, air tools, lots of hand tools, Jacks, jack stands and if I feel like going to the base there is a hobby shop with everything including lifts, tire machines and lots of other goodies. Basically I have at my disposal almost anything I could think of for working on a vehicle.
PRegner 11-25-03, 08:03 PM Wood working:
Radial arm saw
Table saw
Lathe
Two different scroll saws
Router, and table (with dovetail jigs)
A wide, wide variety of hand held power tools
An even wider variety of hand tools
Metal working:
220v arc welder
110v MIG welder
12 ton tubing bender
Chop Saw
Drill press
Angle grinder
Sawz-all
Bench grinder
A wide assortment of hand tools
Wish list:
Plasma cutter
Oxygen/Acetelyn torch set-up
Sheet metal brake
Air compressor and assorted air tools
Additionally, I also have way too much of my Ex's stuff still in my garage (rendering much of my space useless)...
NAILER341 11-25-03, 09:37 PM i have quite a few things...
lincoln 175 welder
oxy/asc. torches
cut off saw
4.5" grinder
7" grinder
pretty much all of the carpentry tools from nailers to chop saw
new tubing bender
cherry picker
jacks
jack stands
auto x ray
orbital sander
impact tools
air ratchets
compressor
many, many hand tools
lots of crap i dont remember
i'd like to get a plasma cutter, and a lesson in oxy/asc. cutting ;)
king4wd2 11-25-03, 09:44 PM Let's see: a variety of hand tools, angle grinder (newly purchased), a power drill (also newly purchased), jack stands and other stuff. Also, christmas decorations out the ying yang :D (that's me), baby stuff, an unused queen size waterbed (mine, which Tom hates but I can't part with :( ), and junk, and more junk that I haven't been able to go through. :D
PRegner 11-25-03, 09:46 PM I could show you how to flame-cut metal in about ten minutes. To get nice, smooth cuts just requires some practice, and a steady hand...

Excuse me! :D Who's mountain bikes, road bike frame and 2 small bins of bike parts?? :D I'm only the pack rat when it comes to Christmas Decorations :D

I think when making comparisons of this nature it's important to consider the volume and sheer mass of the items involved. The bike's and parts would fit in a small shed; the Christmas decorations require the area of an entire garage.... :D
(note to self: The next time I see Tom and Sandy, remember to "duck and run" from Sandy...)
goodtimes 11-28-03, 12:13 AM What's in my garage??? Too much crap to put the jeep in it right now!!!
OK, I do have 1/2 of the floor cleared out while the epoxy dries.....
So, there is the Millermatic 210 (welder), Hypertherm 380 (plazma cutter), 14" chop saw, 600 pounds of hand tools, all standard air tools (impact, die grinder, air hammer, needle gun, cut off tool, etc), all standard electric power tools (drill, hammer drill, angle grinder, bench grinder, etc), variety of jacks and jack stands. Air compressor comes tomorrow, along with some more wood working tools (gotta love day-after thanksgiving sales).
Tube bender (probably JD model 4) and a notcher will probably be the next things to come (after I finish the furnature, and paint the house, and lift the jeep, and....)
:good:

Since it is beginning to look a lot like a Craftsman Christmas (hints came that I am getting Sears gift certificates)...more stuff for the Kitchen/Garage. :D

Nope, no tube bender, but they can be rented. Some day, if there's a big enough need, I'll get one.
Killer Angel 02-17-04, 10:10 PM hmmm, I can use 2 different High School's auto shop. That means about 6 lifts, and god knows how many tools and types :) Dyno Tester, etc...

That's cool. But...What if you want to use the shop on a Sunday afternoon? Can you get in, or do you have specific hours you can use them?
Killer Angel 02-18-04, 03:01 PM They are open on weekends alot. Once and a while the autoshop teacher leaves for something, and we cant use it. Other than that its open on weekends alot.

qwiksilver 02-18-04, 06:00 PM I bet my "shop" is the smallest. ;)
I finally got everything to fit in the closets...well, sort of...will try to fit the top in there this summer...otherwise it goes behind the kitchen table.
But all the tools, the doors, windows and various trail stuff and camping gear fit neatly...and not in a crowded way...into one closet...backseat shares a closet with the coats.
