Trail Report Jacoby/2N70Y/Heartbreak/

Had a Great run today in the Big Bear area. I met Scott (Dezertdog) in Lucerne and we cruised up Hwy 18 to Jacoby Canyon (3N61) and met up with Dave and Dalene (flatpoint), Randy and Carmen (mybrokenjeep). We hit the trail as a warm up to Heartbreak and things to come. Jacoby is a "Blue" trail and was a fun run with a couple of challenge spots. Only a 3 mile trail so we finished at 9:30am and drove to 2N02 to meet up with Mike (Malachi) who was to be our guide for the tougher trails. We drove across 2N02 to the Rose Mie area and did a little playing on some hills. One that I avoided before, was a breeze with the new found confidence thing. Next we continued east to 2N69Y and 2N71Y. Both rated "Black Diamond" but seemed moderate at best. A nice side trail that I've skipped in the past. Next was Heartbreak Ridge
2N61Y. Rated "Black Diamond", this does have some interesting spots worthy of your attention. we all made it up the first big hill that has seen some erosion recently with the storms that have gone through the area. We continued through the area, exploring and ended up at the campground to check out the arrastra and take a break. Back to the trails we ended up checking out "Doc's Cabin" off 2N64Y. A cool intact single room cabin looking out towards the desert in the far distance. Mike then led us to Hwy 38 where we aired up and said our goodbyes.

Thanks, Dave, Dalene, Randy, Carmen, Scott, and Mike (Mr. Green) for an outstanding all day run through the mountains. We had broken cloud cover all day and a couple of sprinkles that kept the temps cool.

I am a big fan of the Overland Journal (http://www.overlandjournal.com/) magazine. Well, the founders of that magazine (who also run Expedition's West (http://www.expeditionswest.com/)), have put together a new training opportunity called Overland University (http://www.overlandtraining.com/).

They are offering some very interesting courses in many different areas of off road adventures, from Photography, to Trailer handling, to Logistics, etc...

My wife and I are signed up for various classes. It is my goal to be Overland Certified. If you are interested in that program, there are two prerequisites, you must get your HAM license (I already have mine) and you must pass a Wilderness First Aid course. These courses are not offered very often. The next one closes to SoCal is NEXT WEEKEND in Pasadena. Check out this list here:

Poop in Peace

Got this from my sister-in-law Annie

We've all been there but don't like to admit it. We've all kicked back in our cubicles and suddenly felt something brewing down below. As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, the WORK POOP is inevitable. For those who hate pooping at work, following is the Survival Guide for taking a dump at work.

*CROP DUSTING* When farting, you walk really fast around the office so the smell is not in your area and everyone else gets a whiff, but doesn't know where it came from. Be careful when you do this. Do not stop until the full fart has been expelled. Walk an extra 30 feet to make sure the smell has left your pants.

*FLY BY* The act of scouting out a bathroom before pooping. Walk in and check for other poopers. If there are others in the bathroom, leave and come back again. Be careful not to become a FREQUENT FLYER. People may become suspicious if they catch you constantly going into the bathroom.

*ESCAPEE* A fart that slips out while taking a pee or forcing a poop in a stall. This is usually accompanied by a sudden wave of embarrassment. If you release an escapee, do not acknowledge it. Pretend it did not happen. If you are a man and are standing next to the farter at the urinal, pretend you did not hear it. No one likes an escapee. It is uncomfortable for all involved. Making a joke or laughing makes both parties feel uneasy.

*JAILBREAK* When forcing a poop, several farts slip out at a machine gun pace. This is usually a side effect of diarrhea or a hangover. If this should happen, do not panic. Remain in the stall until everyone has left the bathroom to spare everyone the awkwardness of what just occurred.

*COURTESY FLUSH* The act of flushing the toilet the instant the poop hits the water. This reduces the amount of air time the poop has to stink up the bathroom. This can help you avoid being caught doing the WALK OF SHAME.

*WALK OF SHAME* Walking from the stall, to the sink, to the door after you have just stunk up the bathroom. This can be a very uncomfortable moment if someone walks in and busts you. As with farts, it is best to pretend that the smell does not exist. Can be avoided with the use of the COURTESY FLUSH.

*OUT OF THE CLOSET POOPER* A colleague who poops at work and is Dog gone proud of it. You will often see an Out Of The Closet Pooper enter the bathroom with a newspaper or magazine under their arm. Always look around the office for the Out Of The Closet Pooper before entering the bathroom.

*THE POOPING FRIENDS NETWORK (P.F.N)* A group of co-workers who band together to ensure emergency pooping goes off without incident. This group can help you to monitor the whereabouts of Out Of The Closet Poopers, and identify SAFE HAVENS

*SAFE HAVENS* A seldom used bathroom somewhere in the building where you can least expect visitors. Try floors that are predominantly of the opposite sex. This will reduce the odds of a pooper of your sex entering the bathroom.

*TURD BURGLAR* Someone who does not realize that you are in the stall and tries to force the door open. This is one of the most shocking and vulnerable moments that can occur when taking a poop at work. If this occurs, remain in the stall until the Turd Burglar leaves. This way you will avoid all uncomfortable eye contact.

*CAMO-COUGH* A phony cough that alerts all new entrants into the bathroom that you are in a stall. This can be used to cover-up a WATERMELON, or to alert potential Turd Burglars. Very effective when used in conjunction with a SHIRLEY TEMPLE.

*SHIRLEY TEMPLE* A subtle toe-tapping that is used to alert potential Turd Burglars that you are occupying a stall. This will remove all doubt that the stall is occupied. If you hear a SHIRLEY TEMPLE, leave the bathroom
immediately so the pooper can poop in peace.

*WATERMELON* A poop that creates a loud splash when hitting the toilet water. This is also an embarrassing incident. If you feel a Watermelon coming on, create a diversion. See CAMO-COUGH.

*HAVANA-OMELET* A case of diarrhea that creates a series of loud splashes in the toilet water. Often accompanied by an Escapee. Try using a CAMO-COUGH with a SHIRLEY TEMPLE.

*AUNT BETTY* A bathroom user who seems to linger around forever...Could spend extended lengths of time in front of the mirror or sitting on the pot. An AUNT BETTY makes it difficult to relax while on the crapper, as you should always wait to poop when the bathroom is empty. This benefits you as well as the other bathroom attendees!

SOME VARIETIES OF POOP YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF~
The King Poop = This kind is the kind of poop that killed Elvis. It doesn't come until you're all sweaty, trembling and purple from straining so hard.

Bali Belly Poop = You poop so much you lose 5 lbs.

Cement Block = You wish you'd gotten a spinal block before you poop.

Cork Poop (Also Known as Floater Poop) = Even after the third flush, it's still floating in there. How do I get rid of it? This poop usually happens at someone else's house.

The Bungee Poop = The kind of poop that just hangs off your rear before it falls into the water.

The Crippler = The kind of poop where you have to sit on the toilet so long your legs go numb from the waist down.

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang = The kind of poop that hits you when you're trapped in your car in a traffic jam.

The Party Pooper = The giant poop you take at a party. And when you flush the toilet, you watch in horror as the water starts to rise..

NOW EVERYONE TRY TO GO POOP IN PEACE

QUIT LAUGHING... POOPING IS A NATURAL PROCESS

2. Front bump stop spacers
3. rear track bar locater
4. front track bar ( not sure if it is stock or not)
5.Possibly shock extenders if I dont need them for the new springs I want too get. I dont currently need them with the amount lift I have.
6. 1" Transfer case drop Missing 1 of the aluminum spacers but works fine without it just need too use the outer ones and put some washers in the middle hole. I will look for the spacer.
The 3 - 3.5 inch springs for this lift are currently In my jeep and they will be sold separatly for an additional $175 for the front and rear. Once this kit sells and i get paid is when I will buy new springs and these will be availible. I can also install this for a small fee.

I saw this when I was getting under pulling gas lines off and stuff. Nothing is leaking. Looks like I might just patch it up and get a skid under there.

Also my oil pan has a hair line hole in it where the skid was rubbing it. oil pan can easily be pulled and sealed up. Skid is bent but still usable.

First of Steve, Curtis, Bo and Fred thanks for a great day on the trail it was murder getting up that early but I survived and it was well worth it, just plain had a ball. Heartbreak ridge looks worse in daylight then at night, Looked much easier in the dark. After all that fun a big thanks to Curtis for leading us all around the area and showing us the last 2 trails we ran, the last one was a great mix of John Bull, Goldmountain and Cleghorn road combined. Was a long day on the trail but a day very well spend

saw this on pirate forums. I read about 3 of them on the tj and one for a yj.

Am gonna start it this week. I dont need the tub for anything but tools. I believe the raise will be 8 inches. Looks like 2 nights of work and some cutoff wheels.

Will give me more clearance in the under the backend.

So question is who has done this? And what choices were for your crossmember?

fog lamp relay help

This is for an '03 TJ with stock fog lamps.

Does anyone know either: where the relay for the fog lamp switch is located, or what the color the wires are that come out of the steering column which are attached to the fog lamp switch in the turn signal stick?

I am not looking for the relay in the main PDC under the hood that de-activates the fog lamps when the high beams are turned on.

The problem is that the fog lamp switch in the turn signal stick is boogered up somehow (lights flicker on/off when in the off position), and I want to just cut off the lines to that switch and install a new one in the dashboard to activate the lights instead.

Thanks in advance for any help, i spent 6 hours under the dashboard and hood today trying to back-track and color-identify wires and have gotten nowhere. I suspect the Haynes manual color codes are incorrect.

well the trails has changed out there somewhat. The campgrounds and the wash are way different. I had a hell of a time getting by tow rig out of there.

USFS Adventure Tax

When I was younger, the forest was free to enter and enjoy for hunting, fishing, camping, exploring, and etc. There were lots of free or very reasonably priced campgrounds.

But in the last 20 years, all has changed:

1. The campground management was contracted out to private companies and in order for them to make a profit, the rates were jacked up sky high.

2. A tax is now required to enter the forest. Even for horesback riding! My wife found that out yesterday.

3. Any repairs to trails has to be done by volunteers or it doesn't get done. BTW - I apreciate all the work that volunteers do and I have considered voluteering after I retire.

4. The general attitude of the USFS employees seems to be "stay out of our forest". Not all have this attitude I'm sure, but it seems to the prevaling attitude.

I'm sick of it all. . . but I'm sure it will only get more restrictive as time goes on and I wonder how long before the BLM jumps on the "Aventure Tax"
