Is there a good free antivirus available?

AVG will work well for you. You may want to upgrade to a paid subscription later but the free version is great.

You should down load it and run a full scan ASAP, you could be surprised what AVG may find. I would also suggest downloading Ccleaner and Spybot as well. Run them regularly and remember to keep everything updated. I have been using all three for a very long time.

Best free anti-virus out there is Avast. I have been using it for over 10 years and it is the best. It updates daily and is totally free. It will not slow down your computer and runs only when you are connected to the web.
