    California Prop 37

California Proposition 37 will be appearing on the November election ballot. If passed, it would require any food product containing genetically modified organisms (GMO) to be labeled stating so. The FDA and the companies who developed GMOs say there are no harmful effects from eating GMO foods. Other scientists hold the position that not enough research as been done to verify whether is healthy or not.

In the meantime if you are a registered voter in California, you will have the opportunity to vote whether or not you want food packaging labeled if it contains GMO products.

I support the right to know what is in the food I am purchasing. At this time I'm not saying it should be outlawed like several countries have, however; much more research needs to be done.

There's going to be a hell-of-a fight over this with the large companies who produce or sell GMO products pouring big dollars into its' defeat. Check it out yourself and don't just rely on the TV ads to persuade you.

As I understand it, GMOs are any organism that's been genetically altered. Like the chickens with 5 drumsticks, or vegetables that are 'naturally resistant to insects'. I recall a day when you didn't have to buy 'heirloom' vegetables in order to replant the seeds the next spring. GMOs are not a great idea in my opinion.

I could be wrong about GMOs... But I think it's a choice anyone shopping should be able to make themselves. Of course "NO GMO" labels will cost more, just like "organics".

I think the problem with this prop is that the government gets to decide what is GMO or not. The RLC (republican liberty caucus) will have a proposition guide out soon and I will post up.

I read Steve Williams opinion in the Daily Press tonight and if barbara boxer, the sierra club, morron george miller, and the unions are for it I'm against it. It just gives the greens more ammo for law suits, screw that.

This proposition was not written by the government. It simply requires product packaging to be labeled as GMO if it is. Costing a lot for the packaging is a bull shit argument. The cost of adding "contains GMO's" to a product label won't cost anything. Manufacturers are always changing their labels for marketing.

The people of California will be voting on this, not the government.
