  • Racing Radios

You guys that are running "racing radios", What exactly are they? VHF, UHF, HAM, or another? What are good brands? I don't think I want to put a CB in my buggy, I want something with more range. Any and all info will be appreciated. I know nothing about these types of radios.

    Thanks Joe

A lot of us run this radio:

There is an illegal mod we make to get them to operate in the "Race Radio" band. You still maintain the ham frequencies.

    No arguing about the above.

Sarah also had a thread on the cheap chinese hand helds that are about $50. They are useful in addition to the radio on board. Search for Baofeng on ebay or wherever. A lot of folk in our club bought those also. A friend just had one delivered and it is updated slightly from the radios purchased a year ago. Search on MJR for info.

You can also look at PCI Radio or Rugged Radio.

Thanks for the info, Ol Man. So, based on you 1st reply, racing radios are of the VHF verity? I seen that you signed up for Tin Benders. I plan on doing the same. Maybe I'll run into you out there, and you can show me your radio, if I haven't made an impulse buy before then. LOL. Thanks again.

No problem. The 2900 is a very popular radio.
