  • Trail Report: MJR AAT weekend Trail work 3N93 Holcomb Creek

Here are some pics of the log road we installed on Holcomb Creek Trail last weekend. In several locations along the trail there are natural seeps where ground water percolates to the surface, and several are in the actual road bed. Because of the possibility of erosion at these locations due to traffic, the Forest Service has mandated that the erosion be mitigated by diverting the flow, or in this particular location, to get the traffic up out of the mud/water. This is the reason for the raised log road at this location. We started by digging the roadbed down about 3'. We dug two drains in the bottom of the cut to redirect water under the road. The drains are lined with rock. We then back filled the road bed with rock, and then placed logs on top of the rock. Finally we built ramps at both ends out of rock and soil to lock the logs into the existing road bed.

That is an amazing amount of work accomplished in a weekend. Great effort. I wish that I could have been there to help.

Hey guys, I had a great weekend. Although I was only a small part of it, I'm happy to do what I can. I have run this trail for years before the fire and it was time to give back to it post-fire. I'm looking forward to more projects on this trail.

Hey Steve - Though new to the Trail Crew you have become a big part of the crew. I think I can speak for the rest too in our appreciation to all you do. Myself and the Crew look forward to working with you for a very long time.

        Cheers Buddy!
