  • Trail Discussion: Fordyce Creek

I went up to Fordyce creek a week after the Sierra Trek weekend with a few friends. We were 6 jeeps and 4 rock buggies.
A friend from Nor Cal who was a Sierra Trek trail guide came back out to lead us up the trail. 2 of the buggies were from Nor Cal and came out to guide the buggies up the trail. Unfortunately we (jeeps) never got as far as winch hill 3 due to technical difficulties and late starts. Our base camp was Cisco Grove campground near the trail. Nice campground with hot showers.

2 gallons should get us over that mountain.

Surface! Surface! First water crossing was the deepest.

    And they came.

Oops, shouldn't text while on the trail. Only damage was broken antenna.

The LJs were doing much better than the short Js.

Why get your feet wet when you can hitch a ride.

One day we went up a jeep trail to Signal Peak, (Red Mountain)

At the top was this avalanche lookout from 1909. Watching for avalanches on the railroad track across the valley.

The watcher would telegraph down any obstructions to the tracks.

A great job if you liked your solitude.

The fitting finish to a great trip!

A side trip to California Caverns on the way up to Fordyce.

Man, the view from that lookout tower! I think I could live a quiet life for a winter up there. Looks like fun. This trail is on my ToDo list for sure.
