    Can I use a 231j in place of a 241j in a Rubicon?

  • #2
    Three differences:
    1. The 231 uses a slip yoke on the output shaft and the 241 uses a slip joint on the rear driveshaft. You will need a slip-yoke eliminator kit for the 231 or replace the Rubicon driveshaft with a non slip joint driveshaft.
    2. The four wheel drive light switch and circuit wiring is different (to prevent the Rubicon lockers from engaging unless you are in 4WD). You will have to rig a new circuit to activate your lockers and the locker lights on the instrument panel may or may not work properly.
    3. The 231 speed sensor uses gears; the 241 uses a hall effect sensor, so your speedometer may or may not show the correct speed.
If you don't like the way I drive, stay out of the bushes!
