Deep Creek Construction
Dishpan Springs Bridge Construction
July 4, 2003 - the trail is ready to rock n' roll! See our trail run pixs here.
Dishpan Springs is adopted by the DirtDevils.

The beginning of forest trail 3N34, where the boulders grow into waterfalls at Dishpan Springs, is undergoing some major surgery over the next several weeks. Immediately after crossing Deep Creek, the trail has been dozed over in preparation for a new bridge over the creek. The old water crossing is gone, replaced by a concrete monument to the fish that swim up the creek to spawn.

A local National Forest Service Ranger told us that the main reason for the bridge is to allow easier access for spawning fish to areas upstream of the crossing. We were very emphatic in asking what the condition of the finished trail will be when completed. The answer we got was encouraging: it will have to be a difficult entrance after the bridge.

This is to not only keep everyone familiar with this difficult trail happy, but also to prevent unwary wheelers from ending up at the waterfall section of Dishpan Springs only to find out that their vehicle rolls over quite nicely at the top! Apparently, there have been many roll overs at the waterfall, and this is a good opportunity to improve the lifestyle of the local fish (who wouldn’t want to “spawn?”), as well as make the entrance to the trail more difficult.

These pictures show the initial construction phase of the bridge, where the concrete bridge support members have been cast.

We will keep everyone posted on the status of this project, and we’ll be the first to let you know when the first trip up the virgin trail will take place!
