Panamint Valley Days
November 7-9, 2003

Somewhere in the wilderness south of Panamint Springs, among hundreds of Cal4Wheel members like ourselves, we set up camp for the weekend.

Most of us headed out on the Desert Mine run Saturday morning. The trail was moderately difficult, the King's stocker was leading Rick's CJ through the rocks! Some of us broke off to explore the old mine at the end of the trail. Marlin, the trail leader, led us through several levels of the pitch black maze-like mine.

It was chilly and windy, it rained, and there were 70 Jeeps on our trail run that day, yet nobody complained. Well, Sarah did later, about having to sit through a prize raffle in the rain. So, while Erik was winning a 10-year supply of hand cleaner and Kirk was trying to get in on that action too, Rick and Sarah went out for a night run with M1Jeep and Joe.

Everyone joined back up at camp for some late night smores and a bonfire. We think Tammy may have been the MVP of the day – saving the guys from being stuck with her trusty tow!

The Trona Pinnacles were right on the way home, so we couldn't help but stop. Strange statue-like formations of calcium carbonite are scattered throughout the area, some about 100 feet tall.
